'SANFL clubs have no control on how many games AFL players play yet when they do play it counts in the cap. Could not have been easy for Norwood as they had a heap of these in and out of the team."

That had nothing to do with the salary cap WCP, it just seemed more humane.

As for Norwood's little imbroglio I'll only say one thing. We can't even cheat properly FFS.

Nice, dont quote my next sentence though.

Yep thats what I said, but where did I say 'Norwood breached the salary cap because we have too many AFL listed players.'?
I was responding to the fact that for every AFL listed in your team in any week, $300 is taken out of what you can pay your players.
Just saying its not easy before a pre-season commences to predict your final payments if you have plenty of AFL listed players. Not the reason we went over the cap.
This year it should be easier for Norwood as there are much less AFL listed aligned to us.

The question must be asked.

If you cheat the cap and get caught ( aka Carlton 1995 ) and win, should the Premiership be taken away, or, if you cheat the cap and dont win should you be fined or just made the laughing stock of the competition by all other clubs?
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

The club knew, at the start of last season, how many AFL listed players were on its list. It therefore had to make allowances for the possibility of a number of them playing many games.
I read your post as an excuse for them but if you're saying that wasn't your intention then happily we are not in dispute.

We didn't win the Premiership last year Booney.

Which year would CDFC have been stripped of the Premiership if that was the case?

Your question is irrelevant as you have only quoted part of my post. At no point did I say you did win the Premiership.

But you did ask if a team is found guilty of salary cap breaches and are Premiers should it be taken away? Like Carlton in 95 just to jog your memory.

Norwood were found guilty of breaches in 2008, a year in which they finished fourth, so your question is a moot one. It can be asked of the Dogs earlier this decade though, someone can give me the year I'm sure.

2009 is a whole new ball game.

I wonder if the ban on recruiting will extend to banning Norwood from the mini draft.

Nice attempt at deflection Topsy. Hopefully it will never be a future relevant hypothetical in Norwoods case (Premiers that is). However, I think Sturt were over in 2002 and the Eagles in 2006 ;)

And Centrals in 2008.... *I wish the straws would stay still as I try to clutch them*

I think Sturt, Centrals, Norwood, Port, Eagles, West, South and North were all over in 2002...

Hooray we won that flag too....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

So are North, Sturt, Port and Glenelg the only clubs that haven't got caught cheating the system?
I think these clubs should divide up the last 9 years worth of flags , North, Port and Sturt can have 2 each, we'll give 3 to Glenelg as they need to try and make their flag tally look a bit more respectable.

WARREN PARTLAND
March 19, 2009 03:15pm
NORWOOD has been banned from recruiting outside its zone for 12 months and hit with a $50,000 fine for salary cap breaches.

The hefty financial penalty equals the SANFL-record fine slapped on South Adelaide in 2006 for breaches of the cap, while the recruiting ban is a first for the competition.

The Redlegs busted the $350,000 cap by $30,250 for last season, claiming a misunderstanding of the regulations and a miscalculation of player payments.

The club voluntarily disclosed the breach to the SA Football Commission during the annual salary cap audit.

SANFL state league general manager Darren Chandler said the Commission treated the breach very seriously and it was important to make a strong stand on the matter.

"The Commission reiterates that this was a voluntary disclosure by the Norwood Football Club and it was clear that the intent wasn't to deceive," Chandler said.

"We are satisfied Norwood is committed to restructuring the management of the salary cap in 2009 and beyond.

"Clubs are fully aware of the regulations and the consequences if found guilty of breaching the cap. The rules are there to abide by."

Makes you wonder if Norwood weren't cheating the cap would they have even scored a goal on that fateful Friday night in May last year....
