Mechanical Advice

Postby Lunchcutter » Mon Mar 16, 2009 12:05 am

Hi, Have had a shit of a weekend with the 1994 EL? Ford Future, first battery problems (first came to light when mother-in-law got rushed to the emergency and i left the car in a 1 hr emergency car park when I came out dead flat.. thankfully raa guy jumpstarted to get me home)... recharged the battery for 24 hours and still no good today... tonight raa man came out and did a changeover battery (heavy duty $145) and after he left I went for a drive to the servo and noticed that all my dash instruments are no longer working.. no speedo, no petrol guage no taco... called the raa again they sent another guy out that tells me this problem is an unfortunate coincidence and now i have to go to an auto electrician to repair.. hmmm i know nothing at all about cars, but in general do not believe in coincidences.. can anyone give me any advice regarding this.. have you ever known of this to happen before.. or maybe it is just coincidence... i am scared cause in the past when Ive needed an auto-electrician i've just about also needed a new personal loan too ... any reponses greatly appreciated...

It can be related as in some badly designed modern cars you cannot actually take the battery out without causing the computer to have to be re-set. The correct way to change a battery in one of these cars is to have the battery cables hooked up remotley whilst the change over is made which is difficult to say the least!

Do you go to church..?

I have had a heart attack.

Smoking re-pulses me, I can't stand the smell.

I have found with the electric ariels that if the motor can be heard working then it is likely that you have bent it on a tree or something and it will not easily slide up and down. Try gently shaping it to as straight as you can and use some Vaseline to lubricate.
