That's what I would say if I was getting married.

It's not fair to force your mates to make these tough decisions, especially if they are League Footballers - where it isn't just your team-mates who you are letting down, but also a large number of passionate supporters. (well, maybe not so large if you play for South  )

I once missed a mate's wedding service 'coz the silly bugger scheduled it at the same time as the first home match of the season. (v Norwood, Norwood won).

I did however still attend the reception.

Two good friends of mine had the gall to get married the Saturday of the Grand Prix here. I went every year except the first and for the last five or six of those years, we were in a corporate facility for the four days getting fed and watered and paid for by our good selves.

I declined and gave them a lesson on not picking strategic sporting dates and thereby doing me out of a wedding reception.

Dutchy Mr MK and I got married on a Sunday. :D

I personally don't understand why anyone gets married these days let alone in footy season anyway.
Only half decent reason I can see is a good piss up.
If a North player did it I would never forgive him, mind you I don't think we'd get that sort of player to start with.

My Mum and Dad got married during football season and on a Saturday. My Uncle was best man but was playing fpr Central at the time. He played 3/4 at Prospect then left the game to go to my parents wedding. I can't rememebr who the Central coach was at the time but heard he tried all week to talk him out of it but to no avail. You wouldn't see that kind of thing now a days.

Big difference, a job puts food on the table.
Flying over to a wedding takes food off the table.

Also the fact that a lot of people didn't hear about the South player missing a game due to work might have something to do with it too.
Who was it and what was his job?

Nah mate, just hinting that we wouldn't get the sort of player who'd put a mates wedding ahead of his own footy club, we have a very close knit group of players.

And let's face it, people who need to get married to prove their committment to each other are just the sort of people who shouldn't be getting in long term relationships in the first place.
The whole concept astounds me (except for the part about a good piss up).

Crikey, I must have been at the wrong club in recent years then, plenty of extra activities at North as long as they don't mean missing out or impacting on games.
Common sense I would have thought?

If abandoning your team mates for someone elses marriage is being a SNAG, then yep we don't have any, nor would I want any.
FFS it wasn't his wedding!
