Postby hearts on fire » Thu Mar 26, 2009 12:38 pm

All talk on the Brisbane Lions shall be here, i am following the soccer forum with having each club their own thread.

In 2009, we shall see a brand new look Brisbane, new coach and new playing group. Shall make for a very interesting year.

My Opinion: Brisbane to finish between 6 and 10th on the ladder.

Depends on how the middle-tier players go this year.

If the likes of Rischitelli, Charman, Leuenberger, Patfull, Hooper etc step up, then Brisbane will make the 8 and challenge the top 4 sides.
They weren't too far off the mark last year, but their skills let them down badly when the opposition applied increased pressure in the second half of the season.
Don't expect that to happen under Voss, who was one of the most skilful players under pressure in his day.

I'm tipping 6th place this year with bigger things to come next season.

Good come from behind win last night.

Definatley that fight back is a Michael Voss trait. Rhan Hooper was sensational and Daniel Rich slotted in nicely.

Daniel Rich Round 1 NAB Rising Star winner.

The coaching staff at the lions would have to be happy with there first round draft pick.

Daniel Rich looks to be a great all round player, obviously having played in the WAFL would have helped.

Well done Rich.

Yeah you are right Hearts on , his body is matured to the bigger bodies previously playing in the WAFL.

They reckon very similar to a young Michael Voss.

Well done Rich.

Thats why he was always rated very highly. Played in 2 premierships at Subiaco in the Seniors before he was 18.

Was always a ready made player, I think the question is how much up side does he have? I think plenty but we will wait and see.

The Lions had a fairly good start to the year, but have dropped off the pace a bit lately.

Brown hasn't been firing the last couple weeks and it has fallen apart.

They were expect to lost against the Cats, but to that margin, i don't think so.

I reckon they should bounce back this week against the Bombers.

At this stage, they will just miss out on the 8.

They have a lot of name players but they all seem very similar. Lots of midfield, running types like Dalziell, Brennan, etc, etc, etc. A bit like Port Adelaide, their pace and skill can be brilliant on their day but they can go missing when things get really tough. If Brown and Bradshaw are shut down they struggle to find other ways to score goals it seems.

They seem one or two KPP's short and lack enough depth to push the top 4 I reckon. Injuries to their ruckmen haven't helped either.

Dalziell out for 12 weeks with a knee injury. Not a good round for injuries.

I rate Brisbane, and i believe they are a 50/50 chance of the 8

Yep pretty much spot on.

A really poor effort on Sunday with few players earning their match payments.
They should be a lot better this week at home, but no certainties.
Brown and Bradshaw should find it slightly easier, but they must find other goal kickers or they'll continue to struggle.

I'd like to see Luke Power closer to goal for that crumbing option they desperately need.
He started off his career there and there are plenty of other midfielders who can take his place up field.

Rhan Hooper named on the ball for Saturday's game. Interesting to see Johnstone given the arse. He was tagged out of the game last week and Vossy musn't have been too impressed with his body language or effort. He'll be back.

We'll lose this weekend to North Melbourne.

It was a stirring performance against St Kilda last week when we nearly snatched it but there was no expectation on us to win and thus the players felt no pressure.

But the pressure will be on this week. The Kangaroos will be up for this game and we have a recent habit of coming up short in games against supposedly lesser opposition, particularly in Melbourne.

First rate win today by the Lions.

Daniel Rich was just sensational , will be good to get Charmen back to help bolster the ruck.

Full credit to Vossy's Lions. A really credible effort over the last two weeks minus Patfull and Merrett. Once those two come back and they get some ruckmen on the field (to help Clark who must be starting to feel the strain by now) they'll be a legitimate top four side.

They are better than I thought they were.

Gutsy win by the Lions.
I didn't rate them a chance of winning yesterday.
Heaps to return to the side and a favourable draw in the next few weeks should see them set up their season.
Lets hope they don't lose to Melbourne by a point again....sigh.
