Hey, does anyone have any tips / ideas on how to stop a dog from barking!!!??

Seriously though...more info needed really. Is it your dog? Why/when is it barking? Even the breed can make a difference.

Your dog? The judicious application of citronella spray will discourage it from barking. I reckon you can even buy intelligent collars which release a small puff of citronella every time the dog barks.

Neighbour's dog? The mods would delete my advice.....

Could be your neighbour’s cat walking along the top of the fence teasing the dog.
Doc Walmsley had a number of perfect remedies for that particular problem.

I still miss my neighbour’s cat.
But my aim is getting better !!!!

You might need to speak to a trainer...collies are herding dogs so barking pretty much goes with the breed (look on any collie website) they're also very intelligent and get bored so it could be that too. Have you considered taking up obedience or flyball?

Is it barking all the time or only when it's left alone?

If it's your dog mate, exercise is a key factor, bored and energetic dogs bark... Collies are working dogs and need a heap.

If its not your dog, stay over your side of the fence.

Ha, my dog is 18 years old.

My dog barks until he gets fed his favourite food,

he's is telling me he is unhappy.

He is a pain in the bum sometimes.

Sometimes I run out of lamb chops, I am only human.

He gets p1ssed off sometimes with his dry food I suppose.

We have 2 Border Collies, one took up barking & rounding up the car as we left to go anywhere as a pastime. We tried a few things to stop him, but the one that worked was an anti barking collar we bought on mail order from a Qld. pet /dog trainer supplies mob.
It gives the dog a small shock when it barks, which increases if it keeps barking. It has a rechargeable battery in it. It is a vey low shock, more annoying than a shock. ( the dog didn't yelp or anything, or else I would have ditched the idea) The collar was a last resort & it works.
You don't need to leave it on for long, just a day or two & they are a smart dog, they stop barking.
Now we only need to put it on for a couple of hours every month or so & he knows what it is. ( I think you could even put it on with a flat battery & it would do the trick now anyway.

When we first moved from the farm to the city we couldn't keep the Border Collie cross quiet - in the end we sent him to a friend's farm.
The Wolfhound on the other hand was no problem.
The very active working breeds respond to everything going on around them.

Since then those collars that give them a shock LTM mentioned above came out.
I'd want to know how much of a shock it is before I'd use one on a dog - perhaps test it on myself..

A guy i worked with ordered one online and had it delivered to work. He tried testing it on himself but couldn't get a shock out of it. He turned it on full power (not a patient guy) and tried again. Knocked him off his feet Funny for us but i would be very cautious using it on a dog. After he recovered the guy threw it away. Refused to use it on his dog.

Yeah i think the collars that spray citronella are better.. from all reports.
