Probably the money they're hoping to get from all clubs for sponsors of the copied footy budget.

Cop this for a classic!
On Saturday our C grade umpire took crook at the game, no replacement was available so after a discussion with the Uni umpire, it was decided (he was in agreeance)that he would umpire solo and we paid him our share of the fee to do the job. He was okay about it at the time but now we've copped a $500 fine for not supplying an umpire.
There's a big fight coming up over this, believe me!
bad game for an observer to turn up to. yep, we were in agreeance and i certainly didn't know that, even if agreed, fines would still be applied. i guess, however, we were all told that fines would be rigorously applied this year (even if the fines are fundamentally stupid).
large oval to umpire singly on as well.

So that begs the question, on the opening round of the season, why send an umpire's observer to a C grade game when there are far more important games to observe under the control of appointed umpires rather than club umpires?
Can anyone answer that for me?

Ám i also right in interpreting the fine structure so that its cheaper to play an unregistered player than not supply an umpire?[/quote]
You are indeed, isn't it strange how the fines are now an incredible way to recoup some of the SAAFL expenditure?
Why not at least give the courtesy of a phone call to find out the circumstances why the club didn't have an umpire, rather than just ....bang, $500.00 thank you, no questions asked.

No I don't believe they do! If you think Moz that they will answer these or any other such questions, you'd best think again.

Every year you hear the same story about licensees not able to supply on time and a lot of it is because clubs don't order the jumpers etc. early enough. Poor organisation by some clubs really.
