I bought a bottle of Merlot from Trentham Estate at Easter time.
Letting it sit on the rack a bit - had a taste while I was there, beautiful.

Also back up on the Skillogallee - very tasty.

Trentham is fantastic ! Went there last year on out Houseboat trip. Pulled* up had a fantastic lunch, then a few tastings and bottles bought ! Highly recommend !

Am just finishing a bottle of Mulcra Estate: Henry Andriske Shiraz, 2003.
Absolutely fantastic. Had a rich smell when I opened it up - kind of like a port. The taste was lovely, not rich but strong enouhg so you know you're drinking a nice red.
I bought it at Red Cliffs last Easter.
Mulcra Estate is based at Irymple South.
Definately worth a look, a family winery.

Cooked up a scotch filet steak in mushroom sauce last night and fancied something of the cabernet variety to wash it down.

Looked through the meagre collection of reds on top of the pantry and pulled out a 1999 Penfolds bin 407.

ooooooh yeah.... better than your typical quaffer.

Come on Dogwatcher, after getting out of goal at Coopers today, you could at least offer
to share that bottle of merlot. God knows I could use it (& 6 more) right about now !

My wife was part-French and always made a sauce for a steak using Hennesy Cognac and King Island cream.
She chose Hennesy because some of the others we had were a bit too refined and delicate to cope with the cream.
I would expect that would apply with wines too.

Another Jimmy story

I was out to lunch with a mate in Melbourne. He's a multi $$$$$$aire and we were quaffing serious reds all afternoon at lunch

We were talking about those value reds - Pepperjack, Koonunga Hill, Annie's Lane etc

Mr $$$$'s nightly drop were all $30 - $40 reds

I had three glasses the other night.
The missus said "no more, your lips are red and you'll snore all night!"
Couldn't resist finishing the bottle off. But, she knew, damn it, she knew.
