You probably should ask our resident expert PD09 that question. He has all the answers but be warned, he will mention some clubs and player payments.

Alot has been said about Port Districts etc but credit should go to the Modbury.... The Hawks jumped Districts and kicked 5 goals before PD had any real possession. Modbury's defense was awesome and the run across the whole oval was superb. To PD credit they rallied and got back to 4 goals when Modbury mucked around a bit but then the hawks pulled away and won by 9 goals and change.

Big test for the hawks this week in Goody on their oval but a test that they are greatly looking forward to.

Modbury obviously travelling ok, better than i thought, but i think they might feel the wrath of a very angry Goodwood side this week. No way they would be happy with the result against Henley andf i think the Hawks may just get a bit of a lesson this week.

yes will be interesting to see modbury's form over the joruney, you would think without their 2 guns from last year they wouldnt be as strong. Things gone their way may have given them some confidence. But big game this week.

Modbury have nothing to loose, they have no reputation to live up to and no money to play for.... they have fun playing with each other and are looking forward to playing the measuring stick of the competition for the last 5 years in Goodwood. Yes loosing Guns and Vass has hurt but a few blokes have come to the club that have added to the strength of the team. Modbury lost to Henley by 10 goals and only played 15 mins of bad footy. The lads know what to expect when they come up against the big 5 and so hopefully can match them for 4 quarters. We were also playing well agianst TTG when the lights went out, some say luck but we worked hard to get in the position we were in and the points fell our way.

The goody saints scout will no doubt have reported back on what he saw saturday at the hawks nest, so hopefully we can put in a good 4 qtr effort

Are you serious!!!
You may not have the money but going back to Div 2 would be a fair loss...

I was going to question that statement too, and to say there is no money to play for is a bit of a cop out. Yes, i am sure they enjoy playing together, but if you win, you also get more in your pay wouldn't you??

Sorry, nothing to loose meaning we are playing a great team/club a proven perfomer. The pressure is on them to beat us convinceingly and rebound from a loss last week. There is plenty at stake this season as far as not getting relegated yes. Phil is rapt with the guys effort so far but still expects them to push the top teams and hopefully jag a win or 2 against them.

Hate to be a spelling nazi, but it's "lose" not "loose"

You lose a game of footy. If you drink too much later that night, you might get a bit loose! It was bugging me... ;)

I see little Timmy Davey ripping it up!! Is he a junior at Hawks as i bet he would have had some interest from his cricket club (TTG) and his school (ROC's)

Timmy played his junior footy at the Hawks, he didnt do a preseason this year due to cricket but has a lot of mates at Modbury and is getting better every game.

In regard to playing for TTG, the cricket and footy clubs are two seperate entities and generally I would say they dont get along. There is no real connection for a cricketer to want to play footy at the Gullies.

Modbury have 4 TTG cricketers playing A & B Grade in 2009. Timmy is a great club man went to Norwood and school and came back to Modbury even when country clubs threw money at him. There is actually approx 5 A graders who he played juniors with.

like lads we at Modbury also rely on our young kids who have come through the junior grades and now have an A2 premiership and other finals experience.

FS I don't know what money there recruits are on but $150 to 250 dollers a game seems what most clubs pay. I just don't see why Gepps and Sals north get branded with spending big money. I will also say i think you will find that Gepps got all there recruits because there all good mates!!!

I dont doubt that some are mates etc etc.... but in the end these players well majority want good money if they are to leave a league club. I dont see 150-200 bucks as being enough.

To be honest im not really fussed i just hate it when people say oh we dont pay ra ra ra when that BS and everyone knows it....

This probably needs to be put in the correct context. Gepps Cross has never said it doesnt pay players(unlike some other Div 1 & 2 clubs). It has been rumoured by all and sundry that we pay excessive amounts to players, without any foundation whatsoever except heresay.
It shouldn't matter what a player gets because most are worth every cent, the issue arises when players in conversation want to build their own ego's to the extent they lie about what they get.
The other issue is players sl*tting themselves around (I will PM you Lads about a couple of your guys) looking for extra coin, going back to their own club and talking bullsh*t about other offers in an attempt to increase their worth. There are guys that do it every year.

With due respect to Modbury, if Vassil and Gunning weren't on good money then I'm a monkeys uncle and one of footy's biggest grabbers, a Modbury guy left the club and shopped at just about every club in Adelaide, played at 2 other clubs and went back to Modbury. He doesn't play for nothing so I suggest we all stop kidding ourselves because unless you are on the 'inside' you have no idea about player payments, you can only guess!

Aceman I will see you at the Zoo in the Primate section I can't believe how far out you are I will say this again "the money Brad Vassal and Ben Gunning were offered to play country compared to Modbury was embarassing" They stuck with Modbury and won a GF

Now one is playing for the SANFL getting $50/ game (estimate) and the other has gone back to Maitland If the money was as good as you speculate why are they not still there?

Modbury is not flush with cash, so if you want to see why they are doing so well go there on a Saturday and see a group of blokes who have played juniors together and now do battle together in DIv 1

This is called culture and I am not sure that you can buy that

No bigheads just good honest blokes having a crack for the brown and gold

Same goes for the reserves
Show me a good loser and I'll show you a loser.

yeah i'd have to agree with ya there inflight. perfect example of that would also be Jolly. don't reckon he was getting too much cash at his beloved grassroot club. turned down many tempting offers from other clubs from what i heard. got no doubt that if Vas was getting paid, it wouldn't have been much, and he went back there for the same reason Jolly did.
