What a crock!
From my experiences its because we play the ball, unlike Smithfield's last visit to AL Lightning McQueen, which included one of our players receiving a depressed fractue of the cheeckbone from an off-the-ball headbutt! Nice try but...

I've seen a couple of your big blokes going around being dirty over the years and the umpires over-looking it. Yes, Smithfield's last journey to AL was marred by an ugly incident in which the player has been dealt with by the SAAFL. I am sticking by my post and have always thought that you had prospered well from the umpires at your ground. I am by no mean rubbishing your club, just making an observation, you can't pick and chose your umpires.

i tend to agree..everytime we played AL they got a ride..umpires just dont suspect them of doing anything untoward..and maybe they dont..but thats to be judged at the time ..not pre-judged

unfortunately/fortunately you create your own reputation........You only need 1 or 2 incidents for a reputation to be created. Umpires aren't stupid and sometimes they umpire according to this reputation.......Rightly or wrongly. I have always found AL to be a good/disciplined side every time I have played them over the last 16 years. My side North Haven doesn't have the best reputation but they created it they now have to find ways to change it. You can't blame the umpires for your own reputation.

That is a great post there AF, on a general consensus AL have been very disciplined, I'm just pertaining to two of the games that I have seen where they had a couple of big fella's not playing too clean and getting away with it. I have seen them play numerous times and I was in awe of their side 2 years ago, Fitzroy must've played out of their skins to knock them off on a warm day. They were very tall, very fit and I thought were in a class of their own in div. 5 that year.
You are right though, many years of very little amount of misdemeanours has probably given them a good reputation amongst the umpiring fraternity.
It's hard to gain a good reputation but it's very easy gain a bad one, it's human nature and some clubs have to work extra hard to lose a stereotype.

Some BIG games this week but for Unley and Golden Grove, is it "must win" to stay in touch? is it to early to say their years are on the line already? I think not. CBC and Fitzroy respectfully to follow in round 6 before they go head to head.

Greenacres also under the pump with the narrowist of margins the last two weeks, they could easily of been 0-4. After this week "Salisbury West" they have 3 away games in a row so they are in "must win" territory as well to stay in touch.

Fitzroy will win comfortably, but PAOC will rely on Roo, if he plays they win if he doesnt they could be in big trouble. I am told Pooraka have a lot of players working in the mines, again if they are clocked on under ground this saturday CBC will win away.

Anyone on their day, or will the comp split in two halfs over the next 2-3 weeks. I am on the edge of my seat with anticipation. lol.

Injuries will tell the story I believe. What are the injury stats from Div 4 clubs? I believe the Dragons could be down 5-7 A grade players this week. with two on the long term list.

I just read my write up and I should get a job in one of the magazines, anyone know whow to call to get a gig.

yeah you can have 4-5 years of good disciplined footy but you only need 1 isolated incident to bring a reputation back. Your club would know that as well as anyone I guess.....and I'm not having a dig at Smithfield either.

I totally agree. Back a few years ago there were some bad incidents involving my club. We got called every name you could think of refering to us being feral and stuff. We still cop it even tho last year our team had NOT ONE send off, let alone report. The coaches implemented a rule that if you give away 50m you are dragged straight away. Players took it on board and supported it and as soon as the ump blew his/her whistle the player would already be making their way to the bench without the coach saying a word. But we still cop it from opposition teams, calling us scum etc while playing.

Too right mate, we're lucky that we have a very disciplined coach who now that doesn't stand for any on-field nonsense, he's the reason why we lost a few people last season, it has helped us on and off of the field. I recall zedman asking about certain parts of our crowd leading up to Kenilworth's game at Smithfield last year, he commented about the change of support after that.
It only takes one bad apple, it's our job as a club to pick the bad apples out and address them in-house so they don't bring us down. We can only try and set a good perception from our rivals, we have a young disciplined playing group and our on-field leaders are excellent in the way they lead the young fella's on the right path.

not sure about this mate, agreed hes kicked 17 in 2 games but his entry into the side also coinsided with 4 or so senior players coming back in as well. also he doesnt leave the 50 so the lads have to get it to him (once in its the roo show but still  )

anyway onto your post dont think the roo is playing this week but think the reds will still be to strong across the board for the jets! with a few injuries coming back in.
will be interesting to see how many pooraka lose again. i know it killled there great start last year so i think your right could be the game of the round at linblom park

the next 2-3 weeks will shape the year i think your right, a couple of over the line wins could make some teams years!
will be good to see!

I remember last year that happened to Pooraka, but it wasn't this early in the year. Has it happened already?
We will be boosted by some major ins this week, and will probably field our strongest side for the year.

LM: correct mate..smithfield has totally cleaned themselves up..this year was even better than last year..well done boys

and AL team 2 years was awesome..how they lost i dunno..i played in a losing lockleys team v fitzroy in a GF one year and we were red hot faves at the time and lost as well

saying that, AL are no different than any club..i have seen dirty plays fom their players..being on the end of at least 2 myself..every club has bad apples..i just want the umps to realise that to

being red hot faves doesn't mean much- Fitzroy were in that position (RHF) aswell, & lost.

Pooraka have a few players that go back and forth from the mines but I would think there is prob only 3 that play A grade. Injuries have been a concern in the last few weeks more so. The club has a ridiculous amount of players on the sidelines at the moment in all grades. A grade there are between 6-10 out. Of the top of my head they are: Coles, Wilton, Watts, Russell, Moore (hasn't played at all yet) and Hosking. All did not play last week in the win over GG. Most will come back through B grade in the next few weeks.

You blokes dont seem to have much luck with injuries and player availability. I still reckon you guys had the flag for the taking if you could of kept the side that you had early last year. I honestly didnt think we had any chance of getting near you after the flogging we copped first time around.
