Port wine

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a decent drop of port?

I don't know much about it and never drink the stuff but a friend of mine is looking to buy a bottle as a birthday present for her partner who is bit of a connoisseur.

I would probs drink 10-15 nibs of the stuff every sat night at the club along with a whole lot of west end

there is a port which is about $35 and is real nice
cant remember the name though
I usually just stick to the $10-12 bottles, they seem to go down ok!!

The Penfolds Grandfather is it, but pricey - I still have some 0f the 1979, I bought cheaply [relatively speaking] soon after it was released.
Penfolds Club Port is not bad, and Brown Brothers used to make a nice one.
There are good Ports, and "just for those like to get drunk cheap" Ports, and not much in between I suspect.
Age makes a lot of difference to Ports

Get into Moving Juice at Newton (I think). They have the best drop of Port I've tasted in ages, and very very cheap!

penfolds club isnt to bad, also hardys tall ships is ok
they are reasonably cheap
I think I have had some brown brothers aswell, that was good I think?

The Grant Burge ports go down very nicely.

Never drank port until the girl at the Burge winery who was running the tasting insisted I try some and ended up leaving with quite a few bottles!!

Galway Pipe is a cracker - but "home brew" is more rewarding. Get yourself an oak keg, a couple of 5 litre purchases from a winery for blending, and mix in 375ml of brandy and a similar quantity of muscat, and let it work its magic! Note - you cant use bottled port, you do need to use the stuff sold for making your own.

Don't remember the name but I was given a bottle from a barossa winery that was a German receipe .Was made with port and chocolate man was that nice.
And I don't drink but sometimes have a port well that month every night

Was it made by The Jesuits, who run Sevenhill? They make a few good ports too.

You can't beat your own blend from a Port barrel at home ! I started with some Liebichwein Tawny Port from Rowland Flat, and blended a few drops into that from some unfinished bottles. It worked out great.
The only tip I was given about blending your own Ash Man , was , don't use any Vintage Ports.
