Is this a suprise ? Personally, I didn't expect Shearer to stay on as he has a nice cushy telly job, but when you think of it, there is nothing like the pressure and the pleasure, of being in at the sharp end.

Thanks to the Daily Mail

I want to carry on: Alan Shearer looking to stay on at Newcastle, even if Toon are relegated

Alan Shearer wants to remain Newcastle United's manager beyond the end of this season - even if they are relegated from the Barclays Premier League.
The Geordie favourite still needs certain assurances from club owner Mike Ashley before signing a long-term contract. But even after taking two points from his first five games in charge, Shearer is enjoying the job so much he has told friends he wants to stay and rebuild the troubled club.
While Ashley still has to resolve the situation with Joe Kinnear, who has been unable to work since February after undergoing heart bypass surgery, he is desperate for Shearer to remain at St James' Park and trusts him to guide the club back to the top flight should they go down.

I'll let that one go through to the keeper. ;)

This from the BBC site.

Meanwhile Newcastle's controversial midfielder Joey Barton, who has been told he has no future at the club, is wanted by Tottenham, Blackburn, Portsmouth and Bolton. (Sunday Express)

:( :( :(

Hopefully he's snapped up by Bastards. He'd fit in beautifully over there.

How is there soo much talk about Newcastle? ... They are soo over-rated. :? The only good thing about Newcastle in general is that the band Maximo Park are from there.

Hull are on free fall and only 3 points ahead of Newcastle. Toon have Boro yet and after todays defeat to Arsenal (although Boro did ok for much of the game), and that 2nd by Fabregas against the run of play must have broken their spirit. I would expect Toon to do Boro and Hull just can't buy a win.

Ummmm. ;)

I can see them snatching a point against Fulham this week which will almost do it.

Newcastle 1-0 down in the 40th min courtesy of Kamara, while Middlesbrough lead 1-0 v Aston Villa. Hull down 1-0 presently though, so currently all three teams would start the last day of the season on 34 points! Compulsory viewing! :D

OOOOHHHH, it's all happening at St James' Park! Etuhu clearing off the line with his head for Fulham, then Viduka having a goal from a corner ruled out for a foul (supposedly?)! Toon pressing early in the 2nd half, as they were in the first, but can they come up with some reward for their toils?? Stay tuned...

Foul was for Nolan interfering with Schwarzer, not nearly as much as Japan did v Socceroos at Kaiserslautern IMO! If Toon lose, I wouldn't want to be that referee...

As much as seeing the toon drop would be great, that was disgraceful. Terrible, terrible decision and one that when the toon fans look back on if they do go down, will be highlighted time and time again.

Going down because you're shit is one thing, but having this sort of decision go against you must be gutting for the Geordies.

I almost (not quite, but almost) feel sorry for them, but meh.
