Hold the 'hot towel rack' and doesn't need to made of gold bricks, just a facility that is clean and tidy would be a good start. Something that isn't full of disused, stinking, rotting, wet carpet that takes up more space in the room than it deserves. One would think that pride in their own establishment would ensure a club doesn't allow this to happen. Sorry, forgot to put in the word 'putrid'!

It was tidy in the morning Chumpy !!!

Look at your own and how they leave it !!!
It is what it is !!!

I note with interest that all of the experts tipped Modbury.
A win with some good players(C McLean, J Barry,A Stengle) on the sidelines against the 'new boys on the block" by around 6 is not a bad effort really. Kane Officer flattened by a forearm from #6 (who looks like he's eaten more food in his young life that I have in my 60 years) right in front of the umps and nothing done, took him out of the game so another one short.
One of the umps is that bad, it really is a sad reflection on the umpires the SAAFL have at their disposal if this guy is a Div 1 umpire, he is terrible, and we won!
Incidentally, was told by a Modbury official that their changerooms were officially condemnded by the council a few years ago, I can see why. Time for the bulldozer to flatten them before some exotic disease eminates from the place, swineflu will be like the common cold and rabies will be nothing once this place cranks up.
Footrot anyone?

Ace , do not make excuses. Modbury think GX are soft and almost proved it in the 3rd qtr. but not good enough at this level to compete for the whole game. Officer hit by upper arm [ as i saw it ] and #6 is just a solid lad [ tho some of his team mates look as tho they enjoy their tucker ] yes one ump a bit out of his depth but full marks to the other one who took a fair crunch in the last qtr and got back on his feet and carried on gamely. Modbury changerooms, as i have said before, a complete disgrace for D1. have not changed in 40 years [don't pay players. don't improve facilities, where does their money go ] on a final note well done to GX skipper C.Clonan on his 200th game, a true club and SAAFL champion

Congrats to Clonan the delinquant. I love this man!!!

Gx may be what u call soft but it doesn't say alot for modbury to still get beaten by 5-6 goals. Really should have been more!!!!!

Ok lets get some facts on here.... Im on an official warning from the mods so ill watch my tongue

I thought it was a good hard game of footy on Saturday and Gepps just had the bigger bodies around the ground, Challen & Collins up forward then Cox in the last quarter. Modbury started ok then the second quarter was average and Gepps kicked away to a 7 goal lead. Modbury fiddled around with it to much handball and when they did send it forward they kicked goals. The 3rd quarter is the type of footy that Modbury has been playing they ran it got it forward and put some score board pressure on. Unfortunately we couldn’t break the 2 goal gap. In the end we were spent and cox kicked 3 in the last I think and it was game over. Well done to Joel Vanderveld who kicked 7. No. 27 for Gepps was good setting everything up from half back.

A win with some good players(C McLean, J Barry,A Stengle) on the sidelines

Modbury had 1 on the bench after half time and are missing some good players (T Stanton, M Neve, B Home, R Hofmeyer). These guys aren’t well known but still very good players in there own right and important to the team.

Kane Officer flattened by a forearm from #6 (who looks like he's eaten more food in his young life that I have in my 60 years) right in front of the umps and nothing done, took him out of the game so another one short.

Buddha’s hip and shoulder was just that a ‘Hip and Shoulder’ unfortunately Kane got the full brunt and couldn’t comeback after it. When budda hits you(fairly), you feel it for a week. As for being fat…. He is just a solid boy always has been and always will.

Now as for Change rooms/oval

Changerooms are cleaned every week no tape on the floor and no mud etc etc the club volunteer does a great job. I change in the away changrooms on Thursday nights and use the away showers and have no problems with it. It doesn’t stink the carpet isn’t mouldy and rotten. A few years ago they changerooms flooded after 2 solid weeks of rain and everybody’s ovals were soaked/muddy. Unfortunately the carpet got rolled up and forgotten to be taken out and which led to the as you wanted to put it Ace ‘putrid’ smell.

have not changed in 40 years

They probably wont change in the near future either…. Plans are being done currently which include changerooms. Unfortunately the club doesn’t have the money to build on its own so we have to rely on some funding which could take time. The Oval is in the best condition it has ever been in. The centre only has 2 small mud patches. There was some surface water on Saturday but I think you would have found that with most grounds after a bit of rain last week. The oval holds up very well having 19 junior teams and 5 senior teams training on it twice a week and games being played on it from Friday night to late Sunday afternoon.

[don't pay players. don't improve facilities, where does their money go ]

Ah yes money wouldn’t we all love to have the money Gepps, Goodies etc etc have…. We don’t due to a number of reasons resulting from the way we are governed by the Sporting Club, lack of Major Sponsors etc etc It is hard to fully explain over this forum.

We cover costs each year JUST but we are working hard as a committee to build on this year and try and improve next year on and off the field. If it wasn’t for our fundraising and the players and supporters getting to our functions we would make a loss…. We had over 120 people at the quiz night on Saturday(full house) (Footy Chick seemed to enjoy herself but couldn’t defend her title haha) it was great we had over 100 people to beach party we held in the pre season and we have a few big events coming up later in the year.

Bit of spair time on your hands Footy Smart?
Fair wrap up of the weekend's proceedings. Gepps had alot of class all over the ground and that really showed late in the game. Still to only go down by a few goals to a side that is tipped to be a front runner is not a bad effort. Hopefully the Hawks can get some winning form back against Gaza this week.
