You're probably right bf. But interesting to see what will happen when Barker and surrounds become so big that reasonable players can't get a game there. This was the reason United Eagles formed in the first place 15 years ago, so maybe it will eventually come full circle!

I'm sorry crumber but your last post is pure fiction...United Eagles did not form on that basis. Pity it didnt quite work out the way it was intended to.

No 'pure fiction' there Alice. As someone who was right in the thick of it in that first year, I can assure you I am absolutely correct. The Eagles' first side was comprised mainly of disillusioned players from Mt Barker and surrounds for that reason. Aceman is also correct. The United Eagles Football Club was formed in 1995 and Ian Holton was its' first President.

Once again crumber if u were 'in the thick of it' like u say u were, you would know the reason why they were formed in which i dont want to go into on a forum.... Correct Ian Holton was the 1st president with his son Michael being a prized recruit but i think u may find Scott Jolly had a hell of a lot to do with the forming of this club. It was a dream of uniting the 1991 mt barker high school pizza hut cup winning team with dedication to a gr8 mate!!

I know that too mate. And Scott Jolly was first coach. His dad (Tony?) was on the first executive committee and a runner I believe? Enough said on here. I don't know who you are, but it seems we both had, and still have, the Eagles pretty close to our hearts.
Older, wiser and been there. But still love that grassroots country footy.

brookers faided under pressure...no big man in defense that could go with Durdin..once dees runners got on top brookers had no answer. The legs of of Roger J, Kane Pauss look slow..paul james was off injured and they had few go to men.

Brookers may struggle against any side with tall forwards.. but..Im sure rodger has some tricks up his sleeve.

On the other side, Gardiner was good in ruck.

Think Meadows do have the makings of good side again with the coach probably being the only player on Saturday anywhere near 30 but I guess all sides will have a down stage at some point (some longer than others LOL) and it was certainly good to again be part of a winning side against Meadows.
The subject came up after the game about why the holding the ball decision appeared to have been shelved and one of the umpires said that 'the more a team whinges the less they will get' and that's OK as long as it's for whinging on the day and not for any pre existing gripes (just for you Chad ;) ).
From a biased point of view I would like to see Ronald Rankine get a call up for the KI game in a few weeks time as he's starting to show the form that made him a representative for the Great Southern Football League last year and as far as quick players go he'd be one of the quickest guys to reach full speed from a standing start I've ever seen.

That title is well and truly held by the GH Torrens Valley club I reckon and you'd be hard pressed to convince me otherwise.

Gumeracha on top  Know it is because of the byes, but when was the last time, save for perhaps the first game of the year, was that the case? 1997 they came within a kick of playing in the GF, but thought Kersbrook were top all year.

After losing to Gums on the weekend I reckon Kangarilla may now want to go back to the Southern League

Maybe they could merge with Flinders Uni and join Div 7

The Kangarilla Crabs has a nice ring to it

gums were the better team for most of the game but i think kangys inaccuracy (as with echunga last week) probably won gums the game.

know its been mentioned in previous weeks and its great to see gums being more competitive this year however its dissappointing to see some (alot) of their team still resorting to dirty tactics and cheap shots on and off the ball throughout the game...

it might bring them some short term success but if they keep it up the long term success of the club could be questionable... gone from having very competitive juniors last year no being flogged yesterday. i definatly wouldnt want my kids around some of the gums team

How many kids do u have playing Dentist?
How far can Gums go this year?

two playing in the school football league for kangy.

not sure gums will go too far into the major round... certainly have improved but got kangy and echunga on weeks with many players out and both the blus and dees accuracy lost them the game. kangy had about 10 more scoring shots and only went down bu 6 points. gums top 5 players are very good but the talent peters out quickly after that.

with big names to return for kangy and echunga only just hitting their straps i think the second half of the season will be alot different for both clubs. i still think kangy, echunga and the rams will be fighting it out for 3-5 at the pointy end of the season

I believe that is being done already....... No chance of a one hit wonder year.

As for getting our opponents on good days. There may be an element of that but hell against Kangy we were around 10 goals up in the 3rd qtr, not sure how many players can make that difference.

yeah but you only ended up winning by 6 points and it was kangarilla's inaccuracy that cost the game. wakefield sat at full forward all day until the last quarter when he went in the middle and tore gums apart. he was just one player
