No debuts AFAIK.

2 Long term players have returned to the club. Thats about it. Younger players have become key players though - that where our improvement has come I think. And me not playing. That's a big plus for us.

huge plus for the club thanks for doing that turbo. all the young lads coming through have made it tougher for the older lads to keep there spot. Future is looking bright at lion land
We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

Without looking at team sheets in depth, i think we had 5 players make their A grade debut for the club in round 1 - only one of them had not played junior footy with us. 2 of them are still u18s this year, other 2 are first year out of u18s, but played at another club last year as we didnt have an u18s team. 3 of the 5 are now back in the B's, but would think all will play A grade again at some stage during the year. Our side on Saturday had 14 players from last years flag. Of the other players from that side, 3 have retired, 2 have changed clubs, 1 played B grade(first game back for the year), 1 is injured and 1 moved to Qld for work. 4 blokes from Saturday's side were B grade regulars last year. So, after all that, we are not much different than last year, but lost quite a bit of experience (probably 600-700 games in the blokes who retired/left).

Unusual for a club going up not to have a few new players Felch. Any reason or just faith in current group and juniors coming through?

In all honesty, we got caught out with the 3 that left. All basically agreed to terms, so we didnt recruit or chase aggresively. We knew we had a couple of good ones coming through, and got a couple more quality players back to the club. We used the same principle as last year, and everyone was right to go. We lost 5 quality players early pre-season (all for reasons out of our control), by this stage too late to seriously replace them - not that we didnt try. Any one quality is already stitched up by then though. Luckily 2 of the 5 have come back but losing a ruckman and 2 onballers still hurts. We do have a couple of guys running around at Port too, not sure we will see them at any stage though. Still have a good bunch of blokes onboard though, just means some others get a chance to step up, which they are already showing signs of doing. I dont think we are far off, but unfortunately we can be 'not far off' all year and still get relegated.

Ouch - the rule/theory always is to try and replace the majority of your spine. To lose good players just before the season always hurts the side badly. Good ruckmen are always the hardest to get.

james cibich from smosh
number 7 half back flank for para hills

Hmmm, yeah Cibich is quick, not as quick as Flanigan though IMO.

#7 for PH ?, thats Thach isn't it ? Is he quick ? I know he likes posting in capital letters... ;)

Yeah i think thats Thach ;)
I heard his hobbie growing up, was playing chasey with his 2 pet cheetahs?

Luckily we had 2 good ruckman, and we have kept arguably the better of the 2.

Funnily, i still think we are a marginally better side than last year, or very much the same. Our side would still be very competitive in D4 this year. Gauging from the weekend, Mitcham have improved by 5-6 goals. They are stronger in the ruck department, and across the middle. Also, they played Shaw across half forward on the weekend, which is a bonus. He usually plays a sweeper role to great effect across halfback (unless he gets barrelled by the full forward ;) ).

Iron Fist. What a thing to say about someone. You must be one of those blokes who cant play but give it a go every saturday. I feel sorry for blokes like yourself.
Porplycia a massive loss for Smosh along woth the other 3 blokes who went down last week. Just gives a few young blokes the opportunity to play A grade footy and Smosh a challenge to win games without there best side on the park.
At least his injury will give the opposition coaches a better sleep tonight. I think a few of the opposition coaches are still trying to work out how they are going to stop him. Woodville Sth learnt that you cant put a gug on him in the first quarter last week.

harsh but fair in my eyes, if you ever met the bloke, most arrogant bloke Ive ever come across!
Thats right scotsman, I cant play but i do go out and have a crack
Got alot of time for every other bloke at Smosh except for him!, I know a fair few of his team mates think the same of him aswell!, only reason they put up with him is cause he is a good player!

I heard the same Fisty. Many guys at SMOSH have a severe lack of respect for the bloke. Sounds like the type of bloke who would get on an internet forum, and talk himself up actually...

massive quotes there lads ya talking about a player that has played over 120 A grade games at the club. former captain. @ time premiership player. i would think ya need to check ya facts there lads. Nothing wrong with having confidence, yes he talks himself up but over the years he has proved he can back it up.

All good Schimma, i expect you to back him up and so you should. I actually dont know the bloke, so just going on what a few people have told me.

By the way, all the stated footy facts are great - still dont make someone a quality person though.

I think there is a difference between talking yaself up and being an arrogant prick!
he has had a decorated career, and yes he is a very good player, would love to have someone of his ability/skill at my club, just not his personality!
so you are not aware of players disliking him schimma??
what about turbo, what u think of him(just getting other smosh guys thoughts on him)???
if I wanted to, I could name at least 5 blokes at your club that dont like him, ive even heard blokes say if ya hit him I wont stick up for him! thats harsh if ya ask me, especially from a team mate!

It really is sweet how if one of you'se say something, the other chimes in quickly to reaffirm the statement. Im not saying that your romantically connected but after 1 too many west ends everyone makes mistakes.

How is Lippo going out at Portland? Rumours where that he showed little respect towards his elders out at North Haven last year which created alot of tension

Lippo has been fantastic. Think he is sitting 5th or 6th on the D3 goalkickers, pretty good considering we have only won 1 game.

He is worth every cent of the $500 a game we are paying him.
