I thought a red card was no replacement??? Some correct me.
Yellow card that player is gone for 15min, and someone can replace him.
But to be honest im a little un sure.

I was the Interchange steward for our A grade 2 weeks ago and a red card was given in the last quarter. Player removed from the field for remainder of the game (about 7 minute mark) cannot be replaced for 10 minutes of clock time therefore a replacement player enters the field at the 17 minute mark on the clock.

Yellow is the player is not allowed on the field for 10 minutes of clock time can be replaced and can enter the field again once 10 mins is up

I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

24 POWER TO REPORT A PLAYER FOR A CATEGORY “A” OFFENCE

24.2 If a Category “A” report is made by a field umpire the player shall be sent from the playing field for a minimum of ten (10) minutes playing time or greater up to the maximum of the remainder of such match as determined by the reporting field umpire.

The reporting umpire shall display a red card indicating that a player has been reported for a Category “A” Offence. The field umpire shall escort the reported player from the field and inform the interchange steward of the details of the Category “A” report and the time imposed.

The player may be replaced after 10 minutes playing time.

But the Yellow / Red card in this particular situation is a bit confusing...

Did he give a 50m penalty as well? I'm not sure if that still applies though. It did in 2004 when I umpired

My 1st game - Greenacres v Brahma Lodge at Greenies!!

the sixteen year old from north haven did get sent from the oval with a red card after a one on one mellee, the greenacres bloke tried to pick on the lad who stood up for himself some words were said and then i turned away briefly and missed the slight contact as someone put it. mind you we were only 15 mts away. the umpire did give a free and showed the red card and escorted him from the field. the interchange is on the other side of the oval so i donot know what happened after that. the other umpire did want to throw the ball up, but the send off umpire re instated the free. no 50 mts. after the game the club was told it should have been a yellow and the umpire was sorry for the mistake. yellow card is replacable. red card: i got four years ago was 20 minutes on the bench and could not be replaced for 10minutes and to rub salt into my wounds got left off from the charge at tynte st. but the club had already suffered by the report losing the prelim.

Surely teaching the umps & inter stewards the correct ruling on this is part of the umpiring director's portfolio, isn't that what he's paid to do?

Sorry Bucketts but Im more confused now...if the umpire said "sorry" after the game why didnt the send off with no relacement stand

Zed..I think youre correct and the ump remembered he was taking the missus out to tea on Wednesday night and didnt want to get in the poo with her so he forgot the head butt no matter how minor the contact was..

Thanks Bucketts for confirming the red card from the ump ...you've saved me a visit to the optomertrist :D

There are so many rules for so many scenarios, it is difficult sometimes to remember them all.

Just have to look at some of the comments here about the rules re red cards - most got it wrong, but are still prepared to have a dig at the umpires ;)

We had a guy sent of a couple of weeks ago with a yellow card, which I thought was automatic 10 mins. But the umpire came up to us at half time and said he can come back on after only 7 mins. When we questioned him he said the period of time was at his discretion. I just think that he realised he made a mistake in sending him off.

The rule is 10 minutes and he can be replaced.

However, and I'm not sure about the application of this one, the field umpire has total control of the game.

Maybe he can use his discretion - I'll find out and let you know

BTW the 50m penalty no longer applies the red cards

I think the team that kicks the most goals will win the game.

Well you thought wrong, a team can kick less goals but enough points to still be in front and thus, win the game :D
