Without doubt the last 7 days have seen the most disgraceful series of events I've seen for many years.
Many South supporters have always subscribed to a theory that South are and always have been the "whipping boy" of the Sanfl. I have never subscribed to this theory. Until now.
Cupido is a victim of who he is. If it had been Dylan Williams or Freddy Krueger who committed this vile vicious assault on poor ol' 'Greg Laganus" McConnell there would have been no free kick and definitely no report.
South have been battered from pillar to post almost to the point of extinction over the last century by the SANFL. Whenever the subject of zone reviews come up, you can rest assured that South will be sodomized. It is a fact that South are the only club that have none, repeat none, i.e zero of their original zone. The club made the fatal mistake of winning 6 flags in the 1890's so the sanfl changed the rules so that metropolitan zones were introduced. South had moderate success with 2 flags in the 30's mainly due to some top country recruits -the sanfl then introduced country zones. South have been forced by the sanfl to be nomadic ever since.
South were almost finished in the late '80's, thanks to a few loyal supporters who dug deep they survived and commenced their tenure at Noarlunga. Success has been difficult to find since. A berth in this years finals is a big step forward however and gives the club something to measure our progress and build on for next year.
The salary cap issue has been well publisized particularly on this forum, South have done the crime and been punished appropriately, from what I hear excessively by the Sanfl.Previous indiscretions have been punished by a ratio of $1 for every $2 over the cap. South were aparently fined on a dollar for dollar basis.
South will run out onto Adelaide oval on Sunday in an elimination final against Port. The true South supporters will all be there supporting this great old club. We may be few but we are very loyal and very proud of all the players who wear the blue and white, no matter they look like. :x

The decision to suspend Cupido would have to be the most disgraceful decision I've seen at any level of football in my life.
And that doesn't even take into account the precedents the SANFL has set in recent years with people who have been seen shooting, murdering and pillaging getting off at the tribunal.
I don't blame for one second South supporters being dirty on this decision and I full support the SAFC in their action, I would have demanded the same action by my club had it happeneds.
An absolute disgrace and the only plausible deduction anyone could make is the SANFL are trying to punish South.

Let's hope the Panthers turn it to their favour and use it to spur themselves to a big win on Sunday.

The thread is "Was he guilty" but the poll is "should he have been suspended".

Having now seen the footage on the ABC news tonight, I can see why he was reported. Cupido did more than push, it was a strike - open palm or closed is irrelevant. Furthermore this did not happen in a passage of play; it was pure argy-bargy on Kewpie doll's part. The report was proper, and he's arguably guilty.

HOWEVER: it was definitely down the lower end of the scale, and to cop any matches for that offense is laughable, especially considering the precedents which have been set over the course of the year. So I voted NO, he shouldn't have been suspended.

If that was a reportable offence then approximately 280 events every Aussies Rules game would be reportable.
Wouldn't have even copped a game in netball.
McConnell's dive and the eventual decision make a mockery of our sport/league.

Had South as a club focussed on moving forward and accomplishing something, rather than whine and moan about the short straws it has drawn since the 1800s, it might have partaken in a few more finals campaigns over the years.

279 of those events would happen in the play. This one appeared to be delivered in a bit of carry-on between the players, outside the play. This makes it fair game for a report. Being a wet ponce who cannot deliver a half-decent punch is not a reason to avoid a report. It is however reason to avoid a suspension. Shoulda got a slap on the wrist.

Its piss weak, pure and simple, Im ropable and Im not even a South supporter, just a footy purist.
The SAFC can hold their head high, the SANFL and people agreeing with the suspension came out of this looking like a joke.

Now, if Cupido was suspended for wearing those tights shown in another thread, then that would be fair enough.

Having seen the incident live   it looked like a standard push, happens all the time off the ball, no one gets reported. McConnell made it look worse than it was. So much has gone before the tribunal this year and so much has been let off. Then this happens.

What makes it even more laughable is that Backwell got off. Raising his elbow in the manner in which he did looked to have at least as much intent (ie bugger-all) than Cupido's to-and-fro. McConnel should be at NIDA.

well if CUPIDO gets 1 match and i BELIEVE he didnt deserve it then surely most people would agree that MOUSE should have been suspended for his blatant late charge and high elbow.

he probably had to be sighted by the umpires but should of got off at the tribunal.

if that incident was in the AFL Cupidoll would have got 3 games and MOUSE 7.

I agree 100% with this. To miss a final for what Cupido did simply defies my comprehension.

Cobblers. Cupido's case depends only on Cupido's actions. Mouse's fate depends only on Mouse's actions. Neither case depends on the result of the other.

FWIW I reckon Mouse should have bought a lottery ticket after the hearing. However neither result should have a bearing on the other case.
