More to come of the game during the week we thought at the final siren that we had lost the game, the scoreboard had us losing by a point but the goal umpires had a draw. But if we dont get the 2 points for the draw then so be it, the game the boys played today should now inspire us for the rest of the games. The end of the 1st qtr the score was 7 goals to 1 and looking like a big it was goin to be a long day but the boys lifted and the physical presence and tackling was awesome and fought back to hit the lead at the end of the 3rd qtr. Last qtr was tit for tat but we will wait and see what comes of it during the week.
the game goes by the goal umpires and not the score board.

Yeah I know but there was some sort of conjecture, im sure Bigshow will fill us in on here excactly went on.

one goal umpire had a draw. the other, pines goal umpire, had shoc by a point. the time keeper had a draw. the discrepencey ( not sure in spelling) came at 3 qtr time when the goal umpires had the score cards signed but not checked by the umpires, 2 saafl umpires aswell.
The matter is going to amatuer league to sort it out. Should find out wednesday.

Pretty poor day for the Raiders yesterday. Got off to a flying start and were playing great footy until half time. It all went pear-shaped after that. Lost momentum, probably let ourselves get distracted by some cheap-shots, and could only manage the one goal in the second half. Will enjoy the break now, hopefully get a couple of our players back from injury, we've got a bit of work to do to get inside the top three now.

Flinders Uni v Henley - Get ready Flinders, cause I think it might be a long day. Sharks 60pts

Thanks for the compliment but I dont think you can go past the Saints V Houghton game for match of the round. This is where we need night or Sunday games would love to get over to Mawson to watch this one.

I Picked the s**t out of this one.

Bad luck to the Piners but seemed like it would have been a ring-a-ding ding battle. Keep ya heads up boys [-o<

okay so before this goes any futher i am posting this now.....

firstly saint pauls do not condone what was said on saturday and are un aware of who said it. we are looking into it and will follow our disiplin rules and regulations on this issue. (gothebombers) should not have posted this on the forum and should have maybe message the riddler about it. by posting it on the forum it not only brings the player into it but also a proud club that does fundraising for cancer every year!

on the games both grades were hard all day.... the a grade become out of controll at stages and this is because the umpires and not having any controll on the game! they were more then happy for giving 25 meter penaltys for going over the mark yet would not stamp out the behind play stuff all though they saw 90 percednt of it.

the saints battled hard all day and the riddler out coached hoightons coach...... well done to the riddler from the way he has taken a team who didnt make finals last year to a well drilled team....

we are now looking forward to ovingham and have moved on from the two great wins yesterday.

go the saints!!!

ps. quichey.... u agree with my comments and the umpires and also what you think of the new home of the saints??

I would say spectator behaviour is fair game on here.

I don't like to comment on the umpires on here. A couple of hits I witnessed they did not see, what can they do about it then? They can only adjudicate on what they see.

I wouldn't have said that coaching won or lost the game. Clearly your players maintained their hunger for the ball after half time, ours did not. Our structures were fine, we crucified ourselves by not working hard enough to create options, by poor disposal and poor decision making. You can't afford to be that ineffective against good teams. Not having our two best defenders play also hurt us.

I think having clubrooms is great and no doubt you guys fully realise this now. There is nothing better than going back to them after a win, clubrooms filled with the faithful and to have it pumping all night long. Make the most of it, organise some functions and share in the wild times.

yeah it is a great feeling to have a club with clubrooms. It would out a doubt have saved the club and lets just hope we can continue to go up and continue to play the good football. As i said though quichey i aint gonna start a sledging match as we have now have to focus on the ovingham game but there was some behinde the play from both teams..... I also witness some poor hits from you lads but its all put to bed now as we are focused on ovingham.all though they have not been winning too many games we can not take them to lightly.

Gothebombers firstly the two lads in the ingle farm tops were freinds of friends out there and have no ties with our club and its also the first game they have attended too in the three years i have been there. Its hard to controll anyone in the crowed and i am sure u have also said something bad or tasteless without thinking. But as i said this is a issue that is at every game.... I have been abused on many occasions by supporters and i am sure u have also. Its not a thing we encourage at our club but sometimes people say stupid things.

You are correct GTB I am totally unaware of what alledgedly happened with our crowd on saturday but thank you very much for the heads up...if this is in fact true this is a disgrace and something I will be looking into immediately. I do not condone this sort of behaviour and it is not how the club wants to be perceived to the outside public.

The 2 guys there from Ingle Farm are not our new recruits they are friends of people from our club and have no affiliation with our club at all....was the 1st time they've been out to one of our games to tell you the truth.

Believe me when I say that I will get to the bottom of this and deal with it!

Please

Yes some times crowds from all teams can go over the top and in this case maybe the Saint Pauls supporter said some silly things but this has nothing to do with the coach. Im sure the Riddler has more important things to worry about then what some supporter down the other end of the ground is saying. Toughen up.

I heard some of the Houghton supporters having a go at one of the SP boys about having an eating disorder? Guess thats not a serious problem though hey 'gothebombers'?
Dont hear anyone complaining about that??

You obviously were only listening to one section of the crowd then...I was near the Houghton faithful and they weren't exactly very complimentary to our players either. I'm pretty sure I heard one of our players being told he has an eating disorder by one of your supporters next to your bench, I hope this does not get dismissed!

The banter between both camps certainly was not a 1 way street like it is being professed on here....we copped as much as we dished out probably even more.

I also don't take to kindly to an opposition coach accusing me of doing something I do not condone, if he actually knew me he'd know I'm not that type of bloke...and to not even want to shake my hand after the game reeks of sour grapes and bad sportsmanship! I think he even offered to meet one of my players after the game for a rumble...not real professional!

End of the day both camps were not very well behaved (not just St Paul's) and I will take full responsibility for the footy club and try and get things fixed....We had already moved on from Houghton Saturday night discussing how we can beat Ovingham in 2 weeks time.

The gloss has been taking off what was a great win by our boys on Saturday...We played 4 good quarters of football and never gave up. Losing our 2 main defenders in the 1st half due to injury and only having 1 man on the bench for the last 2 quarters was a gutsy effort by the lads. We had to throw some guys who aren't recognised defenders on some very good Houghton forwards and they did the job.

We tried some new things in this game and it paid off...we look forward to the break now and should regain quite a few players into both sides for the Ovingham clash.

Yes Saint Pauls were excellent on Saturday
Its a pity 'gothebombers' has a clear case of sour grapes :( and has to come on here and whine about Saint Pauls supporters because Houghton were beaten. Poor form really

Have North Pines deprived me of 5 from 5 for the third week in a row? Any news on that result?

An old rivalry was reunited at Mawson Lakes 'F*** those planes off' Oval Saturday. Conditions were magnificent and with it came the biggest crowd seen this season as word had spread about the 'Match of the Century'. Both sides were missing regular defenders, so it what no surprise that the first half became a shootout. Novosel was looking dangerous up forward for the Home team and when the Raiders looked like they might lose touch in the 2nd quater, Captain Aaron Musolino imposed himself on the game with 3 goals himself in 5 minutes. With only a goal separating the teams at the long break the vocal crowd was looking for another big 2nd half. Unfortunately for them this didn't pan out as the pace and fitness of the Saints began to hurt the Raiders on the scoreboard. Young Jason Mattner in his 2nd 'A' grade game for the season was superb across half back for the Home team setting up many forward thrusts, while the midfield of Kennett, Bruce-Gordon, Chilvers and Mumford were dominant in patches. Novosel ended up with 6 majors, and must have recovered from his training mishap. For the Raiders, Brett Whales toiled honestly, while Quichey had an entertaining duel with the returning Travis Smits and probably took the battle on points. The Saints head to the break with only the lowly placed Ovingham to play before completing the full round and a big possibility of being 8-1 after it. The Raiders will no doubt look forward to the return bout with Saints, at the small confines of their ground where the oppositions pace will not hurt them as much.

C'mon Riddler, I was witness to pretty much everything on Saturday. Your player walked up to Rexy and abused him as we walked into the changerooms, the same player that was carded for abusing the umpire from the sidelines. And we both know why neither of you shook hands.

Riddler, i actually did shake your hand and then spoke some words to you, I'll admit to that, however your player was the one who abused me, but to be honest that is all in the past as far as Iam concerned. You blokes played good footy for 4 quarters and I was impressed with the way you guys moved the ball and continuely applied pressure to us when we had the ball. You obviously have them well drilled and you are winning games because of that. NO sour grapes from me or my club. Loook forward to the rest of the year and playing you guys again at our ground.
