He knew it was the umpire so absolotely no excuse!! there should be no excuse full stop the rules are clear and simple! i dnt think it says anywhere in the rule book if the umpire grabs u you can push/attempt to strike him.
Pretty sure it says in the rule book that an umpire should not touch a player either though.
Nope, but common sense should prevail. Stick your hand into a dog fight and it'll get bitten. Hit an umpire - 2 years is fair

Agree with you there Jimmy. Still think a player would be shattered getting banned for 2 years.

What i find funny is talking to a guy who was at the game supporting houghton (Mates with clarky)
has defended this guys actions and said he would have done exact same thing in his time playing football.
His version was the umpire came from behind to grab him off the fight physically
He swung his arm not knowing it was an umpire
I was not there and have no opinion, just reporting what was told to me by someone following HOUGHTON NOT ST PAULS
Yes the umpire should also have a case to answer as not one person has denied him not touching the player.

He also said bout the supporters and what was said during the day was a bit low from both sides but general banter bar 1 Pathetic Comment which has already been raised and dealt with
Some like to say Arrogant, I like to say confident.

Might be even more shattered if the umpire goes the next step with assault charges. The Courts dont like umpire bashing either

if this is the case, think about the bloke from Paralowie who got the life ban earlier this year IIRC, can he say appeal and get his punishment changed into a season or two out of the game to think about what he did (not bringing up the incident as from previous threads he obviously wasn't guilty of negligence or foul play, but that's not the point) so that he still has time out but gets to play again at a later date.

maybe this needs it's own thread... this could get outta control!

The Paralowie bloke would not be the only player. We have a very talented bloke as our runner waiting for this rule to be looked at.

Bigshow i think you should check up if he can be runner. I no we have been told that our player cannot be a runner or anything. not even run water

Interesting - I didn't pick that one up - you are correct. He faces an even longer ban if caught

Exactly what I was thinking
As far as Im aware a suspended player cannot officiate in any way

The thing about this and what we have been told is he is no longer a suspended player. He served his suspension before being de-registered by the SAAFL. As it stands this person is no longer a SAAFL player as he was de-registered. We have been told that the club looked into it was ok. From what I know he has had the ok to umpire by the umpires association.

Henley v SHOC - too strong at home plus SHOC don't seem to be themselves at the moment.

Ovingham v St Paul's - gonna be a tough contest, the weather and ground is going to suit Ovies we'll have to be on our game to win here...looking forward to it.

Houghton v Adelaide Uni - will bounce back this week with a convincing win.

North Pines v Athelstone - i'm tipping the 1st real big upset of the year here :D

Angle Vale v Flinders Uni - massive trek for flinders, quicker to fly to melbourne for them...both need a win but AV on their home ground ay be too good but could go anyway.

Good to see that even though we have not won a game yet we continue to get new signings on a regular basis. This week an ex-junior signed up who will be a handy player in the A grade. Just wondering if other clubs are still getting new players at this time of the year??

he would suspended from playing in all leagues in australia until the start of 2012. once suspension has been served the 12 game rule that the saafl enforces would then apply to this player, not allowing him to play saafl but he could play in another league from 2012 onwards
