FOOD INDUSTRY good + bad SERVICE

Postby mal » Tue Sep 19, 2006 7:13 pm

About 95% of all food outlets that I have been to offer good
to very good service, others are below standard.
I would say 99.5% of large outlets give the good service, however
about 5-10% of small outlets need to improve.

Today I went to a fish shop just north of the city, I go to fish shops
to buy grilled fish to get my Omega 3 fix.
I ordered a fish wrap and asked the proprietor if he grilled fish.
He said yes but for an extra 60 cents.
This is a pet hate of mine as about 50% of all fish shops I have been
to charge for grilled fish, although 30 cents was the most charged at other shops.
I eat predominantly organic food[naturopaths orders] so I asked for
the tomatoe, lettuceand cheese to be left off leaving the wrap + fish only.
The proprietor mumbled yes.
I asked if having those left out would be enough to not pay the 60c .
The proprietor mumbled no.
I was pissed off but obligerated the order.

Why do I get charged 60 cents, when a crumbed fish would take more
effort to crumb, use more batter ingredients to produce?
The fish grilled has no added expense.
Is it the gas they use, or cleaning the stove after ?

One thing for sure I will never ever go back to that shop.

Worst service I ever had in a food joint:

About 5 years ago when we were living at Glenelg we had a friend from the UK staying with us. One night we wandered down Jetty Rd in search of a meal and ended up in Gringos: the mexican place on Moseley Square.

I placed the order to the blonde bimbo at the counter: "We'll have nachos to start and X, Y and Z please".

"Do you want all your meals together?" she asked. Odd question, I thought, but I said yes.

Presently the meals - X Y and Z - all arrive prior to the nachos. "We wanted the nachos first", I said. No big issue - I figured they'd just hang onto the meals for 10 minutes while we got stuck into the nachos.

At this point the bimbo who took the order called out from the kitchen: "You said you wanted your meals together". I tried to tell her that I asked for nachos to start with - every time I opened the mouth, she just came back with "you wanted your meals together". She exited the kitchen and trudged over to our table, yelling at us that "we wanted out meals together". Pointing out that I had asked for nachos as a starter, I was told loudly that "nachos was a meal". Never mind that the menu board had two distinct columns labelled STARTERS and MEALS, and Nachos was listed under the former.

Eventually she says "I asked you if you wanted your meals together and you said yes, remember?" I agreed - I had said that, insofar as I wanted my meals to come together - AFTER the nachos. Upon hearing me say yes, the manageress walks over and tells me shortly "if you don't take your meals now then I'll throw them away and charge you to cook them all again".

At this point I relented. The nachos were duly placed in the middle of the table and the meals along with them. Our friend from the UK was flabbergasted, and our mood was ruined.

Prior to that experience we had visited Gringos about once every 2 or 3 months; it was a good place to get a large junk mexican meal at a reasonable price. However since the aforetold experience, neither of us has set foot in the joint.

If you're ever looking for a Mexican place at the Bay, I can thoroughly reccomend Monte's on Partridge St. The one at Holdfast shores is also of high standard. But ferchrissakes avoid Gringo's like the plague.

Worst I've ever had was at Surf and Chook in Mt Barker. Ordered $5 chips and 5 butterfish (regular) and had to wait 50 minutes. was only about 5 other people in the shop. So much for fast food!
Worst of all, copped a spray from the missus for being late with dinner. The kids were crawling the wall with hunger and giving the missus the sh*ts.
Haven't been back since, although I think its under new management now.

Best is at a cafe at Balhanna.(Forgot what it's called). Good fast very friendly service, pretty good price, foods great and they have a play/toy section for the kids.
Wolf Pack. OOOOOOOWWWWWW.

My worst ever experience with the food industry.

Was at a house at Pooraka and we ordered a delivery
of Chinese Food from a shop next to the Foodland at Para Hills
which was a takeaway/deli establisment.
It was about a $90 order for about 10 people.
I didnt want anything fried so ordered Pork Spare Ribs with Plum sauce.
The order arrived everybody grabbed theirs, I could not find my Ribs.
Eventually I was left with a serve of what appeared to be crumbed fried chicken.
I thought it was a mistake and was angry, my mate tasted the meal and told me
it was crumbed Pork and it was an error.
I rang the establisment and told the manager of the misappropriated meal.
I asked for the replacement.
The manager said no and said my meal is what I ordered Pork spare Ribs.
I told him it was fried crapp.
He stood his ground.
I told him he was advertisely falsely on his leaflet.
He hung up.
I rang back and demanded my $$$ back.
He said no and hung up.
I was fuming, I grabbed the meal and drove to his shop.
I went to 5 other surrounding businesses and asked what they thought my
meal was, no-one guessed Pork Spare Ribs.
I went to the shop and summoned the Manager and asked for a refund.
He refused.
I told him over 15 people thought his meal was wrong.
He refused.
By now I was at boiling point.
I kick a chocolate display down and told him he was a f*****g crook.
I got to his enterance and dropped the food on the floor, splattered it
over his shop window and all over a lollie vending machine.

He rang my mates house and talked to his wife and said:
" Tell your dickhead husband he is a f*****g dickhead."
Mates wife replied:
" Thats not my husband, its a friend you ripped him off....."

My friends used to order every month from there, never since.

I would think that for a regular customer and a $90 order, a refund was
a compromise.

Thats my worst, but I know Punky has a worse one.

Best: Hampstead Hotel.
[quote]

The Hampstead is a ripper. My mates in Adelaide live right next to it, I stayed there a few weeks back for Showdown and ate pretty much all my meals there. Every night in the Sports Bar they have a $11.00 Pint & Parmy. Huge, delicious snitty and a pint of Carlton Draught for $11!!

Also the Sunday roast are tops as well, in the main restaurant.

Couldn't agree more blink. I live about 5 doors away from the Hampstead and get down there for at least one schnitter per week. I steer clear of the restaurant though, different matter entirely...

I was confronted with an entire chicken, crumbed and fried after ordering a parmy at the Alma last week too, good value feed.

If you don't mind paying a bit (ie, not a pub meal!) Check out my mate's restaurant, SOSTA. It's on Rundle Street next to the Stag.

Everything is damn nice. Argentinian.

I reckon the chook was $12 or thereabouts at the Alma. Most places have beef $1 less or same price, not sure on the Alma though.
