But Irwin's whole career could be described as "tacky" so isn't tackiness appropriate for this situation then?

I didn't sledge Steve Irwin 66, just the hype surrounding the memorial and the way it's been continually shoved down our throats up here. It's ok for South Aussies to say 'It's a memorial FFS' but up here it's bloody madness. Before you compare me to Germaine fargen Greer I suggest you increase your capacity for information retention and comprehension.
Hype sucks no matter what colour you dress it up as.
So does "helping animals" as far as Germaine is concerned.
Sorry, Rik E - but your opening rant (as much as it was your opinion) DID sledge Steve Irwin. He was always about hype. He was an extrovert. He lived on hype. It's like I said - he would have loved the memorial service. He would have loved the attention. That's what it was all about. Now if you can't handle that yourself - that's fine. But to insinuate that it shouldn't have been done that way (which is what your rant was doing) is another matter entirely.

Bullshit.
How do you know? All extroverts love attention. Steve was an extrovert. Where do you think young Bindy's self confidence came from?
Rik E - where else was I wrong? (and don't bring THAT thread up because I'm done with it after realising you-know-who was a troll)

It's quick sick to even suggest he, personally, craved attention.
He was defiantely an extrovert - his boyish nature really meant he came across as a lovable carefree character.
But he was not an attention seeker.
I quoted this to expand on the automatic hype - and Dissident, I suggest you go back and look again at what an extrovert is. And also I suggest you also take the "attention seeking" in context. What Steve craved was attention to the animal kingdom. Now to achieve that, he had to APPEAR to be an attention seeker himself. That's why I think he would have loved the memorial service - if anything because it would have been all about the animals he wanted people to notice. A state funeral wouldn't have achieved that, and it's why it got rejected. So what I said was not BS.
Now as a result of that, the hype was automatic. It had to be.
Do we understand now?

Zipzap is spot on. Making a Hollywood movie is a terrific example of what I'm talking about.
Being an attention seeker is not always a bad thing. Certainly in the case of Steve it was a good thing. I'm sure Greer took the same attitude towards what an attention seeker is - and called it a bad thing. Of course that doesn't justify that bitch (as someone said on my own forum - she needs her bra back!!).
Apologies if that last remark offended - I'm still a bit sensitive to a certain person and his lack of understanding (Rik E knows who I'm talking about) and that's what came out. And no, I'm not a school teacher!
