I am happy to report that tonights meeting has been successful and the Ovingham Football Club still has breath left in it. They WILL field an A grade team on Saturday to play against Athelstone.
Thirty four people turned up there tonight, they were addressed by Mark Shadiac, Gino Capogreco & Glenda Czorlohan from the SAAFL who detailed what the requirements were from a financial perspective and what the SAAFL were prepared to do to assist their cause and keep the club playing footy. The Fines component of the debt($2K) has been suspended until the end of 2010 providing the club can from now on, meet the payment schedule as agreed to at tonights meeting. If this is met, the debt will cease to exist at the end of 2010.. Mark gave the people a breakdown of matchday requirements and gave time for each person to have input of their own to discuss issue or problems that they were facing. As a result of this forum, several of the issues were resolved and process's are now in place for the club to move forward. Mark, Gino & Glenda left at around 7.30pm.
The people who have put their hands up to form a new committee then met with myself & the former Chair of the Northgate Comm & Sports Club, Eddie Beavan and we continued the meeting with the entire group until 8.45pm This was held in a casual way with everyone having some input. It was ascertained during the meeting that of the 26 players present, only 1 had not fully paid his subs, the outstanding subs are owed by people who have come & gone from the club, bearing in mind that for the first half of the season, they fielded 2 teams. We were assured that these people had been constantly asked to pay subs but had no intention of paying anything to play footy. Next season when clearances come in from these guys, the $150.00 will need to be paid before any clearance is signed.
The committee will meet again next week with me present to setout the job specs as per the SAAFL guidelines, this is then to be given to the SAAFL for approval. Tomorrow, a payment will be made to the SAAFL of $650.00, money which was at the club raised through canteen/bar sales.
I have no doubt that this has been a case of too much work for too few people, poor communication and a lack of understanding on the requirements to run a club successfully. I am confident that they now understand that it isn't a sin to ask questions or seek help if required, I have offered my help for as long as it is needed. It was pleasing also to see Heather come in to the meeting once she had finished her other commitment, she messaged me later offering her gratitude for what had taken place.
I think now the Ovingham Football Club is back on track, at the end of this season other challenges no doubt will arise but at least we have achieved something that some felt was not possible, so I now have pleasure in confirming that those who pledged assistance can now be assured that your pledge will be used to help the club in the way it was designed, to pay off the outstanding amount and allow the club to get on and play footy and to also function in a profitable, healthy manner.
I look forward to many more pledges from you good people, details of how your pledge can be paid will be posted on Monday.
