who remembers the demo's at the track over the years ? they were great & should the tradition continue ?

the vin knight drive on bag limit when it won the winfield cup (i think) at moonee valley even during the presentations vinny was grabbing the mike & sticking up for himself while 'the boys' were giving it to him, but it was a 'poor drive' the week before

at the dogs john gray (bookie) laid is sons dog elsie johnstone at 1/3 when the rest had it 1/10 it duly missed the start & never looked likely great demo in the ring that night

at the gallops lettsy got beaten by a head in a photo at morphettville & some bloke called him a cheat lettsy responded yes i cheat as i cheated with your mrs last night

there is more but will put them down later but have you guys got any demo stories ?
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

There was a day 30 years ago when this nice impressionable lad
was at Cheltenham one day and was waiting for 4/1 to back this
horse each way[Bookies had a sign each way 4/1 and over]
Most bookies were 35/10 as this lad waited for the 4/1.
With about 5 minutes to go he asked a dozen bookies if he could
back the horse at 35/10 each way for his $1 each way and was rejected.
He didnt back the horse and it duly won.
The lad went to nearly every bookie that denied him his bet and told them
what he thought.
One prominent bookie told him to f...k off.
The next 60 seconds the bookie and the young lad traded obsenities.
Several punters became involved in the fracus and the police had
to intervene, the lad was given a stern warning.
That young lad was none other than Mal.

I used to go to the Port Lincoln Dogs when they had them on before they folded 7 years ago......... Prizemoney was a massive $90 per race......... we raced on a Sat arvo and as there were only 10 - 12 punters max there the only intrest was in the City races being a Sat arvo....... the 1 bookie was in a shed... behind the viewing mound.... he put up a market on the local dogs..... every runner at around 3-1 coz he rarely took a bet on the locals..... the shed had a window and when I crouched down and looked through that window I could see my mate on the viewing mound who would make a signal to me as to who was in front going down the back straight...... meanwhile the dopey bookie is watching races at Randwick, Morphetville ect. and hasnt realized they have jumped..... so I got a quick signal that the 4 dog was in front down the back and backed it.......suprise suprise it held on and won... we did this for 6 meetings (sure the odd leader got run down)..... but made a sizeable profit....
The bookie realized what we were up........... coz we were collecting a lot on the locals......... I think we got a little bit gready. We were told to 'P... Off'. The dog's folded the next year.

My mate had a dog that ran at Gawler mostly..... he would put vaseline in its eyes to make sure it didnt win, or put a 3 corner jack inbetween its toes to get it to slow down. One day he had it right and got 20-1 and cleaned a bookie out!!!!

ENTangle Park mon.25/9 + Greyhound gossip.

Postby mal » Sun Sep 24, 2006 2:02 pm

WHYALLA GREYHOUNDS
----------------------------

For all you dog enthusiasts who were intending to go to the
Saturday meeting on 30/9/06, dont bother the meeting has
been called off.
Reason being was that there are no staff to run the meeting.

DOG SYNDICATES
---------------------

The GRSA has run an advertisng campaign on dog syndication
ths month, the club has recieved several enquiries.
Well done to the club as I see syndication as the salvation of the industry.
There was the West End syndicate and the Allcodes syndicate that
were prominent a few years back, both had big numbers and when
thier dogs ran the crowds swelled.
Peter Jovanovic has a small syndicate of dogs, one owned by a high
profile female racing admin person who has been seen frequenting.
The industry needs an influx of owners to prosper.

Unlike
Wheeler interstate dogs raced by SA trainers have no owners here
and consequently no one rolls up on course to see the hounds running.
About half that prizemoney disapeers to the interstate interest as well.

ENTangle PREVIEW+ MALS odds needed
---------------------------------------------

R1-2 ALBERTA PRINCE no speed early and may run into a placing at oddsPLACE [$2-00].
R3-1 VANITY BALE had 2 runs in 3 days and now had 12 days off since falling
........................... has an edge on ability on these WIN[$2-80]
R4-1 JAZZY JAKE this race suits and will be in the finish EXOTICS quins/exactas/trifectas.
R5-1 JUMBO FORREST well boxed loves 600m if holds out the[7] go well WIN{$1-70]
R9-7 COLOUR ME HAPPY looks winner but will be too short 731m looks ideal.[NO BET]
R10-3 DONA FLORENTES fitter and looks a good e/w bet EW[$3]

DUTCHYS TREBLE
--------------------

Dutchy concentrate on the dogs and leave S/DOG alone please.

17/1245678/12345678 $56
1/1245678/12345678 $28
$84 too much to spend so will cut it down for all us paupers.

17/1245/12345678 $32
1/1245/12345678 $16
$48 a cheaper bet.

First leg[1] JUMBO FORREST will be short, [7] ROCKIN RELTUB might lead
at its first try at the 600m.

Last leg[4] BRANDEEN MICK is a risk as there is more speed than usual in this race.

KULPARA CUP
-------------------

Good luck, dont forget the Kulpara cup heats October 7th
and the final on October 21st
Locals tell me there is a great BBQ and cheap grog as well.

Good luck

DEMO AT GLOBE

Postby SCD » Tue Sep 26, 2006 12:47 am

One night at Globe with an Eagles friend of mine, when a Gav Lang Specialty of getting the $1.40 favourite beat, happen my mate threw his book so hard into the tab counter security had to come and ask him to settle down or leave the track... If ever you want to see a dummy spit just be at globe when we're all having a bad night... :D

A few years ago - My brother at Globe backed a roughy, that lead and got beaten a head after being taken on the whole way.. He didn't like that the driver that took him on only ran 5th.. so when they came back to scale he proceeded to tell Peter Tidswell to put his f@#king cowboy hat on and to learn to drive.... The two of them then went at it, until we ended up pulling my brother away from him..
Port Power has 16 years history at Football Park...

The Port Magpies have 40 years history and the two shall never be confused or combined
