I think one of these are in order ... Image

Firstly, the Bays are not favourites ... how can they be favourites when they've lost their last 4 against the Doggies, including the GF and the last meeting by 14 goals.

As for the Doggies, they've had an up and down season and have only lost 3 games, a record every other team in the comp would envy.

They're still a very good chance for the minor premiership ... no, no panic or end of an era just yet.

I can see the Bays possibly winning the premiership without even playing Central in the finals...

Sounded like an awesome effort by West never giving up despite being 5 goals down at one stage, even though its bad for North I found myself cheering them on!

Any truth to what they said happened in the last quarter?
Kym said that J.Gowans got hit by friendly fire and then threw the ball at his team mate giving a free kick to West which turned into a goal, with Gowans getting plenty from the crowd on the way off wanting to go on with it with someone in the crowd.

Yes, Wedgie, one of the biggest dummy spits I've ever seen at the footy. With a few minutes to go, with West 7 points up, there was a hard pack contest right in front of the grandstand. James Gowans at the bottom of the pack got collected, presumably by friendly fire and the umpire rightly called for a bounce.

Gowans took a little time to get up, naturally, but then stunned everyone.

He got up with the ball, but instead of giving it to the umpire, threw it forcefully at a teammate. Free kick to West at a vital time. He then took himself off (although it would have been a blood rule anyway) and went down the race. A West supporter gave him a spray and Gowans allegedly punched the wire mesh forcefully. He then started back down the race towards the supporter and had to be restrained by a Centrals official. He then proceeded to allegedly smash his fist several times into the race perspex with enough force that the whole crowd could hear it.

Not a good look.

West winning spoilt your run of not being there to see it! It's obviously a good sign for the club. ;)

Hey red and black before you have a go at Gowans, take a look at some of your ferral supporters....some of their behaviour at the players race was far worse than Gowans.

Every club has that element, but not every club has a player who throws a ball at their own teammate then wants to pick a fight with a spectator.

Apart from calling it a dummy spit, what I wrote was just what happened.

Presumably you don't think it was a dummy spit?

PS: Yes, spelly, after the Norwood win, I was getting messages to stay away, but after Waikerie, it was welcome back :)

Laugh my f--ken guts out, hearing one of your mob telling a few of the 30 Westies supporters to pull their head in??? Like your mob have never dished it out in the last 9 years. The Gowans get as good as they give and if they can't take it then well you know what time it is...
That's one of the reasons why we love to hate the Gowans', they love dishing it out but they don't like copping it. Suck eggs I say

Reckon it would have been 2003 at Richmond, which would have been their last win too. About this time of year, similar conditions, and I reckon the 1/4by1/4 scores were very similar to this game. Spelly?

The Bays stuff is debatable, but your comments regarding the Dogs are spot on. We have seen this pattern many times before. When the Dogs drop two finals in a row, or finish fourth or lower, will be the time to talk about the changing of the gaurd. But as long as they get their top three finish they are alive and dangerous.
This was a great result for West, I believe the Dogs do have a certain level of pride they want to protect, but in the long run I don't believe this is a game that is going to stick in their ribs,
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

West 2.3 4.4 9.5 11.6 (72)
Central 4.3 8.5 8.5 10.8 (68)

We have enough stats gurus around here, thanks.

Dogs not good today, West showed how far they have come and that they are certainly in the hunt for the finals. Whilst in the grand scheme this may have been a game we pencilled in at the start of the year, we are far from gone and looking forward to the next game already.

The fine line the Gowans both walk and the passion they both show for our club is why we love them. They have enough credits in the Bulldog bank that we can forgive events like today as a battle scar and just an episode of falling off the fine line.
