No matter who you beat in a Grand Final, you beat one of the top two teams in the league.
Thanks for selectively quoting my post. Any chance you could read all the way to the end of it?

Yep, here's the salient point:

Not sure if the Eagles quite qualify as a powerhouse

Now go back and read the start of mine.
Thanks for quoting the bit you have a dispute with this time, but you still left the end of the sentence. The part where I qualify that they are almost there, but the failure to win a premiership is what prevents them from attaining that status.

Have it your way buddy: The Eagles, despite consistently finishing ahead of every other club bar Centrals, are not a powerhouse therefore Central's premierships are worthless.

You really are a "glass half empty" kind of guy, aren't you...

Not at all, in fact quite the opposite. I just took exception to the way you responded to my post.

Perhaps it is the spot from which we observe - my team is the one beating them, therefore I don't see them as a powerhouse. Yours is not. Anyway, time to move on.

Booney wrote:-'er,I would suggest who ever the two teams are playing in the GF are the powerhouses of the comp, the fact Norwood,Port and Sturt are not there means they,at this point in time, are far from the powerhouse category. If you dont consider the Eagles to be a modern day powerhouse, think again, since their loss in 93,they have been on or around the mark, and for mine,GF day, someone has to lose,it's just repeatedly been them.

Very well said Booney, I agree 100%. The Eagles and Centrals are the powerhouses of the current competition much like port and norwood were of years gone by. Unlike a Port supporter to say something positive about the eags though. full credit booney.

Sixteen years in the competition, fourteen finals appearances, 6 grand final appearances and 1 premiership. Yes I would think that should qualify us as one of the modern day powerhouses.

You speak of ancient history Dasher...!

The bar has been raised in the New Millenium....!

To a new height....

A height that not many seem to elevate to...?

1. The Dogs must be commended...! For being the best team this century...!

2. Sturt too, for being the second most successful team this century...!

3. A special mention to the Eagles....! The only team that tries, year after year...! It's called the second most consistent, non-premiership side this century..! Bad Luck Ron Fuller...!

EHL only one premiership for all that dominance, that is a terrible return mate. You arent even competitive in the Grand Finals either, in my eyes Centrals are the only powerhouse of the comp at the moment, the merged side is not quite there, you should have won a few flags by now.

North and Sturt have had some very poor periods since the Eags came into the comp yet they have won the same amount of flags!

Since the dogs entered the comp in 64 Norwood has won 5 flags spread over the 40 years and havn't won one for 10 years. Hardly powerhouse material.

Port on the other hand were -winning muliple back to backs and making the finals nearly every year - until 99. Since the new millenium they have been relegated to ex-powerhosue status.

Agree RM, I don't think we are a powerhouse, mainly because of the way we have gone about losing those finals. '94 obviously, '00 and '01 we were even with the dogs after they'd kicked with wind in first quarter, 04 well..., last year I believe was an "honourable loss" like in Fos Williams' creed, but a loss nonetheless.

But isn't it great we have a real competition where you have to earn your success (rather than being handed it to you in the draft, etc), and you can stay up there for years without becoming a victim of your success ir Port, Brisbane.

I would just like to beat any team at a Grand Final with more supporters than the Bulldogs.

Hasn't happened yet!!

I can't pick a GF when a side does not deserve to be their, so usually the loser can be considered the second best side for that year

I don't want to beat a Norwood or Port just for the argument sake, so we can say we have beaten Norwood or Port, I want to play against the best opposition side for that year no matter who it is
