I could point out 6 reportable incidents that I saw personally, and from all accounts there were more.
A couple of glaringly obvious reportable incidents during the game which are inexcusable were-
1) Paul Wootton getting punched in the head about 6-7 times on the half forward line just before half time. This was by number 7, who I believe is your B grade coach. The umpire was 30 metres away and no report was made. Lucky Paul is a tough nut. Took the punches well.
2) Terry Bignell- CHB/Full Back- was standing one of the McDonnell brothers. Was minding his own business and watching the play then Mcdonnell punches him square in the face for no apparent reason. Only reason I can think of was because he hadnt had a kick all day and was frustrated. This resulted in the other Mcdonnell brother running in and throwing punches. Both Terry and L. Mcdonnell were sent off for 10 mins.
These two plus many others and the fact that anytime a Hectorville player got the ball a Mitchell PK player came in late with an elbow or jumper punch or punch tackle. Plus we had a broken nose and split jaw from two other cowardly acts.
Newsflash- that is not how to play tough football. That sort of stuff is C grade crap, just gutless really.

Shouldn't happen in any grade! What I witnessed last year was disgusting, blokes watching play down the ground and getting king hits to the head from behind and happened all game.

My post was general in nature, not necessarily referring to the weekends game. We are unfairly maligned, I have heard opposition players, coaches and umpires confirm exactly this.mypaddock wrote:You are kidding yourself if you think you are being unfairly 'maligned' as you put it.

I did hear about this one. I will get some more details. I didn't see it though.mypaddock wrote:1) Paul Wootton getting punched in the head about 6-7 times on the half forward line just before half time. It's gone from 6 reportable incidents to two fights. One of which you confirmed that your player got sent off as well. As for punch tackles or late elbows, I watched 3/4s and didn't see a single one.mypaddock wrote:These two plus many others and the fact that anytime a Hectorville player got the ball a Mitchell PK player came in late with an elbow or jumper punch or punch tackle. I have played for Mitchell Park for many years and have seen a lot of unsavoury acts. No doubt there have been some moronic things done on the field. The last two years have seen a massive improvement in the on field behaviour of Mitchell Park footballers. So much so that some supporters have questioned wether or not this new discipline code is the reason behind our poor form.jimmy loughnan wrote:agreed, MP are bunch of gutless weak thugs.
morell, respect your opinion on here, but it means nothing if you can't open your eyes to what happens on-field week in week out. Can anyone honestly say they have played MP and the match was played in good spirit, hard at the BALL without sniping or behind the play antics.
P*ss off MP if your gunna act like that. unlike you guys, most of us are here to play football, not cop low-blows behind the plays from your 'tough nuts'. We all enjoy the rough stuff, but not behind play or under the pack when the ball is dead.
So tough they find it necessary to do it behind the play, when the other bloke is going about his business watching the ball. Absolute joke! You say you have cleaned up your image, but it sounds like you need to clean OUT more than a few players in order to fix the reputation.

I absolutely agree that the general consensus is that MP are still, as you put it, the "thug club". That is almost exactly my point.spinach wrote:im sorry morrell but it does seem that the general consensus is that the club is still the thug club of the division..i spoke on here a few weeks back after watching the mp-clg game and how dissappointing mp were with their on-field behaviour, i wasnt sure if it was a one off but it seems like its not

It would be good if any accusations being made were accompanied with a skeric of evidence rather than continued exaggerations and cliches.

In the early 1900's it was general consensus that Black people weren't really human.
For many years it was general consensus that pluto was a planet
Sometimes a general consensus doesn't reflect reality or whats right.

The two best players there - The McD boys set the standard for the other lads who follow suit.
They're out and out thugs. And the lads see their two best players throwing and swinging punches left, right and centre and follow their actions. They need to lead by example or leave the club so the club has the opportunity to move in the right direction.

The point was that sometimes a general consensus shouldn't be considered factual. Its very easy for a few incidents to taint a club unfairly.spinach wrote:hahahaha im not sure bringing racism into this discussion really compares, or whether a planet is a planet, but nice try
Thanks carey. It is tough. It doesn't help when people group everyone within a club into the one stigma.carey18 wrote:Morrell, i respect what you are trying to do on here. Trust me i know, coming from a club that has been tarnished by thugs over the years. Hard to get rid of the stigma associated with your club. Doesn't happen over night.
Yes, that was Luke. This is one of the incidents that the club really does regret. We sanctioned Luke internally in addition to the SAAFL imposed 2 week ban. Luke was extremely remorseful over this incident and was more than willing to receive any punishment deemed fit.carey18 wrote:Just one thing mate. When we played you blokes earlier in the year, wasn't it one of the brothers who tried to kick Hailsey in the head when he was on the ground?.Way behind play.
The McDonnell family are integral to the Club, they are highly respected and well liked and are obviously very talented but I wouldn't go as far as saying they are bigger than the club.carey18 wrote:Ok they might be good players, but sounds like they are bigger than the club?
Very unfair.mypaddock wrote:Especially when you are to blind and ignorant to admit there may be a problem. Never going to be able to fix something when you won't admit there is a problem...
