I just always felt after a loss that it really hurt me to hear my opponents happy and singing their club song, so I liked to serve up a bit of that pain back when we won without carrying on like a pork chop and being disrespectful. Plus I am proud of my club and my clubs song so I love singing it !!

Choccies, this is the reason I believe that you dont sing it on the oval.
I remember in 2004 Fitzroy gave us a wholloping in the last round of the year on our oval, followed by a rousing rendition of their club song (undefeated for the season). This burned, and there celebrations unfortunately were short lived as we beat them in the GF. Would think that the club song played a small part in spurring us on.
Just an opinion.

All good if you guys felt the pain of hearing the song and then used it to inspire yourselves enough to win a flag. I'm sure they would've sung with some gusto given the fact they went through undefeated.

I have to admit I encourage the Mitchell Park lads to sing it in the change rooms. For me it makes it sound louder and it becomes something that you share with your 20 or so mates on that day. Sometimes we sing it under our veranda next to the supporters, best of both worlds.

Very rare to see Mitchell Park sing our song on any oval, unless it's in a GF.

I must say I think doing it twice is a bit much. Almost rubbing it in I reckon....

But would they have given a rousing rendition of their song on the ground if they had won 0 games ? Or 3 games ? Or 7 games ? Or 18 games ?? I think in your subconscious you dragged the number of games won and the undefeated thing into the scenario.... When in fact all they may have been doing was singing their club song after a win ?? I take your point Dolphin but surely you wanted to beat them more because it was a GF and not because they had the audacity to sing their song on your oval ?
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

I have always been of the understanding that you sing it on the oval. I don't get a bad impression of any team that does it against us. You win the game, you deserve the chance to belt it out.

If you need to use these kinds of things as motivation on a weekly basis, that isn't a particularly good scenario. That there is a game of footy to win every Saturday afternoon is/should be motivation enough.

I hear the SAAFL are going to make it compulsory to sing the song in the change rooms otherwise the winning club will be fined for excessive noise.

I believe you should sing the song on the oval to show your thanks to all the supporters. They get a kick out of seeing the boys sing the song after a good win. Some even join in.

When you go into the rooms then you sing the song for the team.

Every club/coach has their own ideas and theories on it, I dont think there is a wrong or right way, I once had a coach who didnt want us to sing the song after we won by 10+ goals. He thought we played disgraceful and shold have won by alot more and therefore didnt warrant singing the song.

My theory when you win no matter what you should sing the song whether it be on the gorund in the changerooms or both.......

Plympton sings the song in the rooms, even after the winless season a few years ago, when plympton won their first game in a year or so it was still in the rooms...

I dont particularly like the singing of the song on the oval, i think its an inner sactum thing and should be done in the rooms, good songs can be heard out on the ground from the rooms anway.

When i went and played footy over in sydney they sung it out on the oval and i was really uncomfortable with it, we sung it pretty much every game but it didnt get any more confortable for me as the season went on.

Plus in the rooms you can 'do stuff' and 'get away with stuff' that you may not be able to when your on the oval!!

I think some things are for changerooms, and the song is one fo them... I dont think any less of a team that does it out on the oval, but i think its more special in the rooms.

And the song should never EVER be sung twice unless you win a flag, then you can sing it as many bloody times as you want, wherever u want!!

Gee, you can write whatever you want on here behind an avatar but you get stagefright trying to sing a song with 20 others in front of an audience.

back in the day, and i mean really back in the day, i was informed that most teams only sang the song after what they thought were great wins, now it has morphed into something that occurs whether the win be good bad or ugly...

As a kid you are taught to sing the song once you've shaken the oppositions hands and re-grouped as a team when you form a circle. It would be bloody hard to get in a circle at Glenunga's or Golden Grove's changerooms, just to name a couple.

We got in a congo line at Adelaide lutheran it was so small in there.....
Maybe that's why we sing it on the oval at GG... ;)

Gold, did you do the 3 step leg raise. Wasn't having a dig, your makeshift changerooms aren't exactly AAMI stadium sized, we had to address our backline, centres and forward lines at different appointments.

At a previous club of mine we were having a shocking season sittin 2nd to bottom and the coach on a thurs night suggested we sing the song all the a's and b's. A thurs night after trainning. I felt naked............ and we got flogged on saturday. It was funny cause all the players never spoke about it. Every one was so embarressed that the only time we could sing the song was after trainning it turned into a taboo topic and was never spoken about again. We were also lucky none of the other teams found out about it!

elizabeth was in the habit of singing it twice when they beat us at home..once on the oval and then inside so we could hear it

jabber: plymptons song starts before they are in the change rooms..like about 30m out they start some sort of primeval growling noise..if they are playing at our place they then like to bang the walls and doors...someone should remind them they only beat the 9th or 10th team LOL..our wins are far and few so we can be found singing on the ground if we win..but we wouldnt do it in the rooms as well..each to their own and differing circumstances can prevail..as long as you are singing it you have won so who cares where you do it

Yeah, the old growl, had to giggle at how you've described it, spot on, but the crux of the song is inside the rooms, the verse!!

Don't like the banging of anything like walls or any of that crap, especially at a place like Panther Park where the walls are like wafer biscuit, could end up costing you some $$$ of you smash through them!
