Sturt to win the flag!

Postby panthers 2008 » Mon Jul 27, 2009 9:27 pm

This may sound like a bold prediction, but I think sturt has the class to win the flag this season.
I should never write off the dogs, but i thought their last quater against Glenelg was a bit ordinary. They looked knackered and their skills dropped off accordingly.
Glenelg are a soild team but seem to lack class to go all the way.
I have watched sturt on a couple of occasions this season and they definately play the best brand of footy in the SANFL.
If sturt can manage to lift their intensity a notch come finals time I have no doubt they will account for the dogs and the bays!
If the Eagles can get some cohesion and their best outfit on the park then they have the "potential" to ruffle some feathers too!
Looking forward to the finals, and guess what? just to be consistent south will not be their again! :(

1. Sturt ar definately the form team in the comp, they are really blowing teams away at the moment
2.Sturt are so due for a win against Glenelg its getting ridiculous. I for one expect to Glenelg lose at House brothers oval in a couple of weeks, but it maybe a blessing in disguise.
3.DoubleBlues 2009 doesnt have quite the same ring to it as Panthers 2008

Can't beat Bays, can't even get close and until we do there's no point talking flags.

Chambers is not the problem though, he's usually scoreless against the bays because the ball is usually so far away he needs a telescope.

Not if you saw us against South.

Reckon you Bays and Doggies boys want us to be Favs as the finals loom to get the pressure off you.

I get your drift.
Pump us up so we get cocky and then paste us when we fall.

........and why wouldn't you? ;)

He only managed four out of a total of nineteen on Saturday mate, so I am not really sure what your point is there?

As for the recent record v Glenelg, well suffice to say that arguement certainly does hold up.

Interesting to note though that for the first time in quite a while, the Bays are beginning to cop some medium/long term injuries and that can most certainly play a part in proceedings...

I think we are a chance, but Glenelg and Centrals must be favourites to contest this year's flag, and I think the Bays are on course to take home the goods this year.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

they will but which year though ?  ;)

i think that anyone of the 5 sides in the final 5 could go top on their day but history says that one of the top 3 usually go top so with that in mind sturt, central or glenelg should go top, i'm obviously hoping for the latter
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

There's so many factors that come into play come finals time that you really cannot predict much with any real degree of certainty. I agree that Sturt have played some sensational football and I'd even take it as read that maybe Sturt have played the best football of any team this year (in general), but that said, Glenelg and Centrals are not going to just lay down and die in September, they're good sides.

I'm confident we can beat the Doggies, don't know why, just feel we have their measure and don't feel we fear them like other sides. The Dogs had us for a couple of years, roughing us up and putting us off our game, but I think we've grown and got past that tactic and when we play them now, I tend to think Centrals are at a loss.

Last years Qualifying Final though, showed why we cannot be complacent, we had that game, but Centrals turned something on in the last, we dropped our bundle and completely fell over. That loss, I feel, set Centrals up for the flag.

Looking at Glenelg, they do seem to have it over us, but then I don't think any of us Blues supporters should worry about that. The Dogs had us 4 times over the barrel in 2002 and we still nailed them in the big one. We can do the same to Glenelg. Glenelg were convincing in one final only last year and that was the Preliminary against us.

Anyway, with all that said, as great as I think our chances our, I don't think they're any better than last season. Can we win it? Sure we can, no doubt, we have the cattle to take it, but Glenelg and Centrals are equally capable. I don't rate North for whatever reason, but Torrens, I don't want to face them, we've thumped them twice, but geez, just don't like the idea of playing them.. for some reason I can just see them shafting us... my worst nightmare come true!

Our last three rounds will show how prepared we are for a tilt at the flag. Glenelg at home, then Centrals at Eliz and Port, who will surely want to be finishing their year on a good note, at Alberton.
Quite happy to play the other two standouts leading up to a finals assault, we can learn things from those games win or lose and should add to the hardness any team needs going in.
Really need to knock off Glenelg at home though, although beating them on our small ground probably won't amount to much when we get on to the bigger AAMI Stadium. Their pace always hurts us and they will be able to utilise this on a larger ground.

Its already been said here a lot but we need to beat the bays first before I am confident of a flag this year. The bays match us well and the reason chambo doesnt kick goals is because of the midfield more so than the fullback.

the dogs, well they are the dogs...so you know what you are getting there...

ive been burnt before so i am not getting excited...when that final siren goes and we are leading, then i'll believe it! ;)

Bays are clear favourites and have enjoyed a mental edge over us for too long now. We'll make the finals alright but unless we can knock them off as well as North in the minor round then I don't see us being major players.

Ive seen Sturt twice only this year and they've been the worst team Ive seen out of the 9!

I've got a feeling that's going to change big time this Saturday, not only being a better side than North but also having the incentive to avenge two losses, it could get ugly.

The Bays are the clear cut favourite barring major injuries to win the flag and should do it in an absolute canter.

At this stage you wouldn't be putting your house on any team for the premiership. It is a little hard to pick this early. A great finals series looms for all 5 teams that make it.
As for it being out of the top three, probably likely, but they have all been thumped in a game this year proving if the are not switched on, they are all beatable.

We saved our worst game so far for you guys at Prospect. It will take a huge turnaround to avenge that this week.
