NG, here's your chance, get in quick or you might miss out.

hmmm.... well considering the missus just came back from the US with a Coach bag worth US$398 i reckon i could spend a couple of dollars on some new clubs... my current ones (1 360cc Driver, 3 woods, 4,5,7,9, PW, SW and putter plus retro bag) set me back $80 total. might be time to upgrade, although my game probably won't get much better!!!

If your bid is successful N.G. give Ace and myself some time to cut them down to size for you.

No different in any sport, even if you can't play, at least look and think like you really can!
New clubs might just do the trick, even Tiger was a novice when he first started.

What about this for an offer!

Glen Russell has kindly donated to the Ovingham Footy club on behalf of his company, VOK beverages, another great SA company, $500.00 worth of that special beverage that everyone adores, Ruski in the new 300mml cans
I am here to tell you that if you haven't tried Ruski, you have no idea what you've missed out on, vodka with a taste. The club will be having it on sale from next week at a very special price, try it, you'll love it!
Many thanks Glen, the next hangover is on you.

Hey guys, what about some bids for the golf clubs?
If you are the lucky winner, you can play a round with myself & Tired Tiger either at Adelaide Shores or Riverside, TT has said he would shout, now that is a miracle!
I will even throw in a dozen balls to help you out, not necessarily new one's, but I reckon Peter Ormsby might even donate a FREE lesson too if I talk to him nicely.
The rest is up to you.

The magoo's seem to be forfeiting every second week or so? Injuries?
Where's Bill? Yeah... Hmm... Bill is on the Villa Quatro, on the road to Salina. I will draw you a map.

How bout you go back a page, you would have found this!

In an earlier post I advised that the Adelaide University Football Club has donated a set of golf clubs & bag to the cause in the hope of adding some additional funds to the Ovingham SOFTY campaign.

In fairness to those who have assisted and all posters on this site, it has been decided to give all the first chance to win the prize via a “Silent Auction”. The highest bid over the Reserve will be the winner. This auction will run for 7 days until next Friday at 12 noon and if we do not get a winner by then, the clubs will be sold on EBay.
Bids may be sent to me via pm, you will be advised if you are below the Reserve and this will give you an opportunity to bid again. Highest bidder above the Reserve is the WINNER.

You are bidding for a set of Prestige brand golf clubs, 1,3 & 5 metal woods with head covers, a 3-hybrid club and 8 irons 4 – SW. All have regular graphite shafts, all weather rubber grips and are in a beautiful 10” bag.
The clubs sit beautifully at address and are impressive to look at; their head shape is very similar to the new model Callaway X20.

The brand name Prestige is from Sweden, they are the countries leading golf club manufacturer, a subsidiary of Callaway Golf, for further information go to their website; http://www.prestigegolf.com;

Any prospective bidder who wishes to inspect the package, pm me to arrange a time and place, meanwhile, get in quick with your bid as this is too good to miss

A lot of that has been brought about by asking/insisting players pay their way,ie subs. A lot of them don't like that idea and as has been proven, club's can't survive with bludgers who won't pay their way. That has been one of the problems this club has been subjected to in the past. No pay, no play!

So your telling me that even though these guys know the situation their club is in, they still can't get their hands in their pockets and pay to play???

**** them off, get rid of them, what a bunch of losers (not the club, just those individuals) that are still so selfish that they still think of themselves before the club... you don't need people like that in your club, not when they know the situation the clubs in.

i dont know the implications of it, but is it a possibily for ovies to spend a year down in C1 with 1 team, while they get back on their feet, maybe 1 or 2 years, and in that time put focus on a junior program (not sure if youve got juniors) which will ensure that you should have players on tap within 4-5 years?? In know it can sometimes be hard to gain a side once you get rid of it, but is it an option??

Jabber, C1 is for clubs with teams in Div 1 or 2. Maybe that C2 is their best option for a couple of years depending on how many new people with good character they can get to the club and keep it on track both on and off field. The club has some great blokes still there busting their nuts to get it moving in the right direction but there has been some that have come along to just play but couldn't care less whether it falls over or not, they just move on to the next place. No clearance will be given to any of these until they become financial but we won't hold our breath on that. The club has never had the resources for juniors so rely on other recruiting for players.
The people that remain will need to be very aware that some new itinerant players are just 'bad eggs' and that they don't fall into the trap as has happened previously.

Fair enough, didn't know that C1 was just for the higher grades, but C2 for a couple of years, less overheads, more of a chance of fielding a team, and winning...

How come the club doesn't have the resources to field a junior side or two? Is that man-power resources or facilities or what?

Geographics would make it hard, Fitzroy is very close and there are a few other surrounding clubs that have had juniors up and running for a while, it's very hard to establish juniors unless you are in a developing area, ie: Angle Vale.

Fair call, but i guess where i am, Plympton, jump in your car and drive for 5 minutes in any direction and you run into Edwardstown (6 junior teams), PHOS C (9 junior sides), Mitchell Park (2 junior sides), and we've got 7 or 8 teams also.

Plympton and surrounding areas is an ageing area, still a lot of housing trust houses, probably just now, in the last 2 years has the age of the area dropped, with a few of those oldies falling off the perch and being replaced with young families...

Plympton just 10 years ago started with 2 junior teams, now all of a sudden there are bloody kids everywhere! We've had a number 1 draft pick which we are still getting $$ from, we've got players dotted through the SANFL, and we're regarded as one of the best clubs to bring a kid to in the area. We've only got 1 oval, we still find space for everyone.

I know there are other clubs with similar success stories...

Schools in the ovingham oval aera include Brompton PS, Prospect PS, Rosary PS, according to 06 UBD, it can be done, and all you've got to do is get 2 teams on the park and it can all stem from there...

Jabber, you are right in part and you've put some thought into it, the biggest thing in the immediate term is to stabilize what is there and get some additional credible people to the club and for the right reasons.
Past history tells us that a "quick fix" of people hasn't done the club any good, so it will be a hard slog and getting family people is the answer. An influx of the type who will foster the growth by working hard for several seasons, with kids of their own who want to play footy, bring their mates and through sheer weight of numbers, create a situation where juniors can play. Start small and grow as a lot of clubs have done in the past. My club 4 years ago had 6 teams, this year 15 teams so as areas undergo change, there is no reason why Ovies can't do the same providing they have the people and the patience to do it as it comes.
That is the biggest challenge!

Funny, isn't it. I can put my hand in my pocket for $100 for a club that I have always regarded as feral, because a couple of good blokes like Aceman and the Nugget ask me to help out, yet some of the players whom I now fund still think its a frickin charity. Another poster on here PM'd me and asked WTF I was doing supporting these prix

GET RID OF THESE FREELOADERS NOW. You haven't won a match yet so make a stand - no pay - no play. No pay - No clearance. FFS, Aceman and I will play in the forward pockets of the A Grade if you're short - at least we have balls!!!!

I think its unfortunate that you have to do that at your club because your struggling but in saying that its good to take a hard line for the future. Keep up the good work
