A-League Season 2009/10

Postby Dirko » Mon Aug 03, 2009 11:01 am

Kicks off Thursday night with the Melbourne Victory taking on Central Coast. Not much build up this season, I have sort of forgotten about it mainly due to the Footy season going strong still.

2 new teams this year and a name change. In comes the new Chelski of the A-League in Gold Coast United, and North Queensland Fury who undoubtedly will be playing in the most putrid looking shirt in history, and the Queensland Roar have changed their name to Brisbane Roar.

Some massive ins for some teams, and it looks like it will be a cracker of a season.

Does the A-League usually start this early..? For a code still trying to find their niche in the market starting a season as AFL & Rugby finals are just about to start seems a bit odd to me.

Good to see Ufuk back in the A-League..!!

Nah usually starts about the same time as the AFL finals, but they've bought it forward as they have the extra games due to the new teams. I would've preferred they start later ie September and finish later.....

I think the norwich city and australian strips of the early 90's where worse.

Good work Jabba.

Looking forward to getting back into the A-League.

Jason Culina at Gold Coast!!! What a signing! Why would he come back now? He was immense for PSV last season. He will boss the A-League like nobody's business.

Coyne and Sterjovski are big ins for Perth.

Then there's Fowler. Anything could happen there, but I'd expect nothing unfortunately.

I am not a fan of these mini-loan deals and guest stints in the A-League.

It will disrupt the squad and they aren't our players, I don't want to rely on a few loan players from rival A-League clubs helping us out for a bit then pissing off back to Perth.

Would have thought, before a ball has been kicked, that Perth Glory would be a big chance to go top 4. They are some pretty reasonable ins.

Very hard to see Newcastle climbing beyond bottom 3. Joel Griffiths is a massive loss of strikepower for them.

Difficult to line up Gold Coast and North Queensland before they kick off, but the firepower of GC looks tough to hold out at home - Smeltz a great inclusion. Reckon that NQ will spring some early surprises also.
