Anyone else a fan of the TV show? If you've seen the new movie 'League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse' what did you reckon? I thought it was pants compared to the show.

Ive heard the TV show is great, Tim Brooke Taylor and Graeme Gardiner were interviewed on JJJ yesterday and said they enjoy it even more than the Office.
When is it on?

3 series and a Christmas special have been on the ABC in recent years but your best bet is DVD these days. It is truly disturbing but one of the cleverest, most well written comedies I've ever seen.

The movie came out at cinemas in England but straight to dvd here - Don't let this be your first LoG experience though...it's a bit of a stinker.

I reakon it's piss week the Goodies are coming without Bill Oddie but there you are.

No kidding? There was an article about them in last weekend's Sunday Mail (in the back half), along with a picture of all 3, so I assumed all 3 were coming. Judging by the picture, none of them has weathered the years too well... :o

The Centrals site is a local site for local people isn't it? I remember seeing that somewhere.

I'd be keen to hear what you think of the movie as a fan of the series.

Fact! Though I reakon a lot of people who bought tickets are blissfully unaware and are gonna be mightily pissed off that the only Bill they will be getting is pre-recorded on tape.

It's like the Angels without Doc, Queen touring without Freddie, the Doors without lizard boy or INXS touring with some guy called JD Fortune! All of which are absurd, though secretly I'd like to see Ian Astbury drop in some lines from Wildflower during Riders on the Storm.

Bill Oddie went down to Oz with the Goodies just last year didn't he? I read a bit about it on their website. A lot of Aussies wrote in to say how superb the performances were.
I agree with Zip Zap and would like to add that it is a bit like the Beatles touring without Ringo.
The ABC or one of the other networks should give the Goodies a bit of funding and let them do a season. I saw on the Panel about five years back, Tim Brooke Taylor said that the only reason the Goodies were axed was that the BBC in pommy land didn't think them worth it, never mind that they were drawing huge ratings down under. Tim also added that if they had continued backing they would still be making shows today. So, once again...why isn't anyone backing them? They're well worth the punt.

I remember briefly they were revived in the early 80s for a time on Channel 7. It was awful. They looked old then and that was 25 years ago. Much as I liked the Goodies I wouldn't want to see them again making new shows. To be honest I found them a bit hit and miss back then even, though I have fond memories of lots of episodes and coming home for the ABC smorgasbord that was Kenny Everitt, Battle of the Planets, Dr Who and the goodies. Wow!!!

My school had it's Christmas Concert last night. My kiddies' act was kind of a homage to classic Oz anthems (eg. The Real Thing, True Blue, I Still Call Australia Home, Waltzing Matilda, Up there Cazaly etc - good timing it was too with the World Cup fervour still in the air). For 'Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport' I had three little Rolf's with wobble boards running around on stage in a tribute to the Goodies episode where they have a Rolf Harris theme park ('Scatty Safari'). The parents loved it! I play the Goodies to my students occasionally - especially the 'Gender Education' episode whenever we do Sex Ed. Heh heh. One time a bunch of parents where being shown around the school unbeknownst to me and they came in as we were watching 'Kitten Kong' - a few of the dads said they wanted to come back to school.

Anyway, back to the League of Gentlemen...they are doing live shows again now and have indicated they may come here (I think they've been before?). That would be awesome and I'm sure there would be no 'live by video' shenanigans.

Zip Zap, I vaguely remember the Goodies being on channel seven yet I have very clear memories of their episodes I saw on T.V before that time, perhaps that could be an indicator of how good that season on channel seven was. Maybe it is just as well that they didn't reform for T.V, but going on the hype I read on their web site, it sounds as thought their live shows were fantastic.
Your own version of the Goodies sounds pretty good. The Rolf Harris episode is one of my all time favourites.
