Geez, you'd think we'd be better served placing that effort into winning the ball instead of getting frustrated.

Maybe they were too keyed up for it, AH, and their desire for a good performance has actually had a negative impact on them. The ol inverted 'U" thory on the realtionship between arousal and performance.......
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I just hope they let the match run to full time this year. Wouldn't like to think the Legs were denied a chance to slam on 17 quick goals in time-on to win the match.

Yeah, maybe. I guess we're all different, but I used to play my best games in Grand Finals, the occasion just used to make me lift. Ah well, that's the way it goes.

I was very worried about this game, I thought the leg's would give us a hiding with a couple of selection blunders in the last couple of weeks that meant we were going in short of a ruckman, awesome effort by the 21 that played.

I reckon teams get pumped in Grand Finals becuase the realisation of defeat becomes accepted by one or two players, then five or six and the effort begins to fall away. Remember there is no next week and the players begin to feel the pain of that grand final loss and it's party time for the opposition. Congratulations North Adelaide.

GO U RED 2'S, BACK 2 BACK, 2005 2006

I thought we were going in short 2 ruckmen when the banner pole took Matt Down out! :?

Quite an amazing effort considering we were down 3 very important players from the 2nd semi side that just snuck home.
Reminiscent of the 52 League GF.

Spot on Thiele, Norwood sat top for most of the season, jusy pipped by North at the end of the season.
Bluey made a comment at the presso's on the number of players that had played ressies for North this year, 60, makes the years achievements seem even more impresive with such a disrupted line up.

Well done to the Roosters and congrats to them and their fans ... What a blow out - The writing was on the wall pretty early, and I'd mentioned to one of my mates in the 1st quarter that the result had the potential to be ugly ... Always thought our boys would be up against it, and after some crucial misses in the first half which should have at least kept us in touch, we had no answer to the leg speed and brilliance of North

The 3rd quarter was something quite amazing, something like 10 goals 3 to no score.
North couldn't miss at one stage too.
Big turn over of players from last years premiership too and there'll be another big turnover of players this year too so good to share it around.
The lads were very happy back at the club, even if I nearly did manage to kill some of them with a banner pole that let slip.

From The Roost (http://www.rocketrooster.com)'s official reporter Paul Horwood:

RESERVES GO WHACK! (AND BACK-TO-BACK!!)

NORTH 5-3 9-3 19-5 23-8 146
NORWOOD 1-4 4-8 4-8 6-13 49

BEST: ALL PLAYED WELL!
GOALS: McEntee 7, M Wundke 5, Delvins, Pfeiffer 2, Kaesler, McGahey, Weatherley, Wright, J Campbell, Porter, Christie

You bloody ripper!!

Our amazing Reserves outfit absolutely walloped a hapless Norwood outfit by 97 points in the 2006 Grand Final, and in the process easily defended their 2005 title. The barnstorming Reserves, like a good wine, simply got better with age during the season – the win bringing their amazing undefeated run to an astonishing 11 games!! (Interestingly, Norwood was the only team to beat them convincingly during the year (by 82 points in Round 8) – with 2 of their 5 losses for the year being by a solitary point!).

In blustery conditions, our boys totally dominated the game from the outset with everyone winning their position…from the ‘tall-timber’ of James McEntee (7 goals) and Michael Wundke (5 goals) who had a picnic in our forward lines…to Ryan McGahey and Tate Kaesler who were running around like unregistered and intimidating pit bulls at the stoppages and clearances…to the likes of the ‘G Train’ (Graeme Kellett), Ryan Nye, and Ricky Ebert who set up countless clinical forays into our forward line…to Josh Cubillo, Mick Haseldine, Joel Campbell and Tim Delvins in defence who were simply impregnable and denied Norwood at every opportunity.

With captain, and inspirational leader, Ryan McGahey winning the toss, our boys had first use of the strong breeze prevailing to the northern end. In an eerie omen for later quarters, it seemed everyone wanted to get their name on the goalkicking list early – for if it wasn’t McEntee and Wundke dominating the aerial contests and kicking checkside goals (McEntee), it was the clever work of Tim Delvins (one goal and one clever assist) and Co. who were pouncing on every crumb in our forward zone.

Whilst we had already established a four goal lead at the first change, the second stanza was clearly going to indicate what influence the breeze was having on the contest, as Norwood had only been able to kick one solitary major into it.

Due to our intensity at the contest and superb tackling, Norwood simply could gather no momentum in the second term – with our boys easily kicking goals into the breeze. Our defence was virtually impregnable as Norwood just could not find a safe and easy passage to goal – indeed, it was our defence who kickstarted many forward forays, most notably a strong mark by Josh Cubillo at the seven minute mark which culminated in clinical passage down the length of the ground to the waiting arms of ‘Jimbo’ McEntee.

The fitting reward was a four goal buffer at the long break, and the Roosters looking forward to capitalise with the breeze in the ‘premiership’ term.

Whatever coach Scott Peters said (or gave!) to the players at the long sojourn should be bottled and sold – for the amazing 10.2 to 0.0 for the third term was simply football of the highest quality, to which Norwood just did not have an answer.

If not finishing off the polished delivery from McGahey & Co., ‘Jimbo’ and Michael Wundke were crumbing their own goals as they feasted with gay abandon in our forward lines – the result being the two contributed 7 of the 10 goals for the term (including Wundke kicking 3 goals in 3 minutes early in the quarter).

The domination was complete, as North’s use of the football was clean and precise, with all disposals invariably hitting their target at will. By contrast, Norwood reverted to a dishevelled mess, as if clearly recognising that their premiership aspirations were being thwarted by a simply superior outfit.

At the last break, with a massive 87 point margin, it was party time – in the crowd at least!

Our boys further extended their lead in the last stanza, not even allowing the Redlegs the solace of easy consolation goals in ‘junk’ time. Whilst our lead extended to over 100 points during the term, courtesy of a fantastic long pass from ‘Jimbo’ to ‘Delvo’, Norwood’s fifth goal finally came, with much sarcastic cheer, at the 13 minute mark to reduce the lead back to double digits (Norwood had been restrained to a miserly 0-3 in six minutes shy of two quarters of football!!).

In the final wash-up what can be said other than a performance befitting and deserving of a premiership cup?

Whilst Josh Cubillo won the Bob Lee medal for best-afield, it was really a case of all played well as every player won their position and contributed solidly to the outcome. Congratulations to all the players and the coaching staff for delivering another cup to the treasure chest at Menzies Crescent.

Dare we boldly suggest three in a row next year!!!

Alas, with local football now in hibernation on the local landscape, what to do now on a Saturday?

I will sign off my last match report for 2006, by thanking all the senior players, coaches and support staff for allowing me to escape from the stress and toil of the working week (for a couple of hours at least!) and into a world of unbridled enthusiasm (and the occasional heartache I might add!) which is otherwise known as the North Adelaide Football Club.

Until next year…
