I dont really care what people say, i love the flares, except this year it almost blew my foot off (and for the record most of the people around it know it is going to go off)
I walked out of the ground dissapointed, put so proud of the supporters behind the goals, we tryed our best @ the end of the game to drown out the Eags club song, and IMO we were louder in that last qtr than some in winning GF's
Alot of the people behind the goals are there throughout the season, it just never all @ once, there is about 20 that are there every week though.
The general feeling @ the club last night was proud of the team for what has been a fairly against the odds kind of year, everyone was still really in a great mood, and most people knew that we were owed, and the Eagles deserved it.

Excellent point and one I've milled over quite a bit. I love North supporters (in a non gay way) but its basically 1-13 year olds and over 30s.
Big gap there that has to be addressed by North, most other clubs and the SANFL in general.

Again, as I've posted recently, I think this comes down to the area.
Centrals area, being up at Elizabeth, Salisbury et al, it's natural for a late teens - mid 20's following.

The community feel of the area, not just the club - is unbeleivable.

They're many years behind Central and I've already offered my assistance to Phil as Marketing Manager at South as he needs it as kids down here are only interested in two things as far as footy goes:
1) AFL
2) Southern Football League

Ive played cricket and footy down (and worked) here for years and people look me as though Im crazy when I tell them I still follow a SANFL side passionately.

To be honest, I think they've started and will continue to grow.
The "feel" is probably a bit different to up North so it will take more time.

Ahhhh....I can honestly say some people would call me a bangwagoner this year!
Never got to a game until the GF. Sadly.

I play footy up here on Saturdays - which makes it hard.
Then when I do get to Adelaide on a Saturday - I like to see if Elizabeth or Trinity OS are home.
If they're not - then I'll go watch the Dogs. If they play on a Friday and I get there in time I'll always go to watch them.

This year unfortunately I had two Saturdays free and was in Adelaide - both times there was a bye in Amateurs and SANFL!

A bandwagoner? Nup. But only there for one game to lend my voice to the chant. And man I was proud the way we cheered to the end. I came with 10 people and none of us left until after the siren.

So EHL - I asked in a previous thread if you'd be humble in victory. It appears not.

Well done to your club, congratulations on supporting them, but mate, have a look around and think before you post.

It is indeed an excellent point Punky, and you're spot on ... Sunday's win on top of regular finals appearances could well have a big impact in the future on the number of Eagles fans/members, noticed quite a few of their supporters were kids at the GF

So you might say Pot calling the kettle black, but I have never seen so many ferals in my life.

Not that is a bad thing, they were actually a credit to the Centrals club, the noise the passion right till the very end (Most of them) and I saw no trouble.

So they might look feral but they are great supporters and something the SANFL should brag about and not frown upon.

The SANFL Grand final had great atmosphere because of them, even with the flare

So well done!


PS So too the Eagle fans behind the goals down the Southern End, they just had less numbers.

Even though the Dogs were comprehensively smashed by the Eagles, our supporters SUPPORT them til the end. That's CDFC.
As for the "feral" bit, sure some are a bit rough around the edges, but as long as they behave, so what? The atmosphere at Bulldog games is great but on Grand Final day it is sensational. A sea of Red, White and Blue...right around the stadium. Love it. Once again, well done Eagles.

The only thing that does confuse me is why there's only about 20 end to enders at minor round games but about 500 of them (at least) at the GF?

I was actually not far away from you wedgie, as my pommie mate explained to me (Port Fan) local soccer season has finished and now are able to go to the games as they are not playing. Plus I saw some friends go who went end to end and as far as I knew don't normally go week to week.

Having been to all 23 Eagles games played this year incl the games against CD I have to say there a big bunch of bandwagonners. well every club has bandwagoners, im quite sure the EAGLES had a fair few of them in the members stand, and most of them didnt start cheering until the 3rd 1/4 when the game was all over, it was as if they had come out of no-where.

I mean the Eagles dont have that many supporters that go each week yet they were all there on sunday. every club has it!!!!!!!!!!!!! you idiot

A bandwagon isn't always a bad thing.

I don't care if people come along to the grand final and nothing else.

We're a hypocritical bunch if we have a go at crowds (and, the GF crowd) being low then in the same breathe, chastise "bandwagon supporters" for jumping on.

Not ALL SANFL supporters are going to be the "week in week out" "bleed for the club" type. There are always going to be the ones who go for a day out, support when they can. Why continually say we should market the SANFL more just to have a go at people who come for a bit of fun?

I've no doubt there were bandwagon supporters for the Eagles. And, I have no doubt for every bandwagon Eagles, there were two bandwagon Dogs supporters. Christ, all of Elizabeth et al could be there! But that's GREAT. It's not a BAD THING.

Having a go at "bandwagon supporters" is cliche. If it wasn't for them, the SANFL Grand Final would have a fraction of what it did.


... and then people would have a go at the crowd number.
