Umpiring was very average, but it wouldn't have made a diffrence anyway, we were crap.

My first and only comment on this: Sam, you're spot on.

When your always second to the ball, you'll give away the free. I don't know how you could single out Williams though Rubbersoul, he was at the Southern end for the first 1/4 and the ball didn't get down there. May I suggest a few more of you people need to either buy budgets & study the photo's or go to a few more games so that you know who's who. The Eagle won because they where more commited, fumbled less under pressure and didn't handball straight to Eagles players running into an open goal

Im constantly having an argument with other North fans (except for a couple) but IMHO Richard Williams is by far the premiere and best umpire in our competition, he puts most if not all AFL umpires to shame.

Let the onslaught begin....

Exactly.
But not only second to the ball - carelessly diving on the player with it.

The Dogs gave away a lot of frees in the first quarter and even I was frustrated for them!

No onslaught from me.

Actually I agree that this season in particular R.Williams has been very consistent and actually correct with his decision making more often than not. Which is more than we can say for messrs Pfeiffer and Fila. Don't know if i'm getting grumpier as i get older but Fila really annoys the hell out of me, and well Pfeiffer?? That guy is an absolute joke and has been for as long as i can remember. Most inconsistent p*ssweak excuse for an umpire ever.

Like i said though, maybe it's just me?

I think Richard William's biggest problem is that quite often a lot of people mistake him for Peter Williams.
Even when Richard is umpiring Im amazed about the amount of people that abuse him for a bad decision when he's actually 100 metres away down the other end of the oval.
Might be time to bring the umpires numbers back.

Everytime I see Rowston and R.Williams umpiring together it is a given that Williams will be abused for 120 minutes and Rowston will get nothing. Just the way it is. I suppose Rowston looks a little like Williams but when it's Fila... ??

Side note - in the mall on Saturday as the masses booed Williams I found myself standing and clapping. I then turned to my wife and mused, "Thank god Williams is umpiring, the other two couldn't make half a decision between them."

I never thought I'd be thanking higher beings for the presence of Richard Williams
