congrats to all medal winners.
its a good recognition for a consistent and outstanding season - especially good luck to those who are still contention - to be best and fairest in a premiership year is a fine achievement.

premierships are still better though. :)

And then retire afterwards is the way to go I say !!! ;)
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

the amount of times i saw this last night throughout the grades was mind boggling to say the least! No disrespect to the guys that won medals but geez takes some shine off if you ask me!

I dont agree, i think its good the umpires notice the efforts of an individual especially if his side is copping a flogging.

Gee didnt realise we all get votes and medals for effort!
Its for the BEST 3 PLAYERS on the ground and in my opinion you would find it hard to pick 1 from a side getting flogged like that

NG if we cant get votes in a winning side, then fair chance we'd be stuffed in a 30 goal smacking ;)

So if a bloke racks up a million possies, clearly wins his position, runs hard all day, is at the bottom of every pack and his team loses by a mountain load you wouldnt give him a vote? i wouldnt give a bloke a sympathy vote but if i felt he deserved it i would. then again im not an ump and i dont know how they think :P

Don't put any credence in the medal count, from what I have seen again of umpires decisions on the field and comments on here by others through out the season as to their performance, no one seems to think they know what they are doing either, so why would we hang with bated breath on votes determined by people we have no faith in for any other decisions to decide who is a division best overall player, for me thanks but no thanks.
Have already fully backed our players in our club medal count.

Maybe the word got around that 20-odd Paralowie blokes were going to be there, and it would be too crowded... ;)

Still think you can have quality players in a losing side that are deserving of votes, no secret that IF struggled this year and kicked low scores in several games but also delivered the ball in the forward fifty plenty of times that was not reflected on recorded score as had no key forward to finish off others hard work.

You can have quality players from a losing side, but are they among the best three players on the ground? If they play better than the top three in the wining side then they deserve the vote. If a side wins by 30 plus goals i would suggest that the best 3 players on the ground would normally come from the winning side. Giving one vote to the best player from the losing side seems like a charity vote to me unless they were one of the best three on the ground.

Also agree & main thing to consider in all of this, is that it's the umpires interpretation of best and as they struggle interpreting our great games rules every Saturday, how the hell can they pick and interpret a top 3 in a game

I remember having an argument with a fellow club ump a few years ago when i was umpiring a b grade match, plympton won by about 25 goals to 1 and the opposing umpire was trying to give votes to one of his players, i said that his side would have struggled to have a player in the top 10 players on the field.

He then told me that he always made sure that both teams were represented on the voting, no matter how one sided the score was!!!

I told him that he was a dick head!
