McIntosh and Colville aren't "everyone" though. Special circumstances for both of these players.

Bullshit, they have no reason or circumstance to be given one ahead of any other player to have missed a GF.You dont play you dont get one.

I'd like to know the criteria that makes someone eligible that didnt play, off you go Aerie...?

Who would want a medal anyway. The thrill is playing the game, not getting the medal.

I was thinking when he got it, that it still would not ease the disappionment of not playing.

Can someone please explain why this was done. Look I have nothing but admiration for the way that Colville plays and his devotion to his club but this has really opened up a can of worms. I think the SANFL has to come out and explain their reasoning for awarding him a premiership medal when in past years there have been plenty of hard luck stories with players not playing on the day. For example Threadgold in 2002, Swiltala last year I think it was, and I'm sure all people on this site can name someone that could have, should have played but didn't and never received a premiership medal. By the way this may sound like sour grapes but it isn't.

Personal post

Gavin was in the team until 1pm Sunday when he himself opted not to play but to give the best opportunity to the team to win - he may have got through but he decided to put the team first.

He is the club captain - His name is on the honour boards for 2006 as club capatin. He deserves recognition as Captain of WWTFC in 2006 - premiership year.

From the board:
All 46 players who have played league this year will receive from the club recognition as '2006 League player - 2006 SANFL Premiers'
Col D
High Flying Eagles
Premiers 1993, 2006 & 2011

In my opinion its a disgrace .Touchy feely garbage ..pathetic

If an Eagles ressies player who just missed out this year goes on to become a captain/300 gamer does he get one retrospectivley for playing some games in '06 and just missing out????

I am stunned at the leagues lack of credibility on this issue.

Both guys may have been put on the spot but I wonder if asked in a quiet moment in a years time what it means to them if you got you got an I'm embarrassed response.

Love my SANFL footy but this straight out is a farce.

MEDIA RELEASE
COLVILLE HONOURED WITH PREMIERSHIP MEDALLION

At today’s traditional West End Chimney Celebration Woodville-West Torrens Captain Gavin Colville was awarded a Premiership Medallion by SANFL President Rod Payze.
SANFL President Rod Payze said “the SANFL Commission today took the decision to award a Premiership Medallion to Gavin Colville despite his inability to take to the field in last Sunday’s Grand Final. Having lead the team brilliantly for the last six years as captain, Gavin was unable to overcome injury and was a last
minute withdrawal from the Grand Final. The Commission wanted to acknowledge the enormous contribution Gavin had made to the result through his leadership and selflessness. His decision to withdraw from the team rather than play under an injury cloud and jeopardise team success was typical of his character and leadership. The Commission felt that this was a unique circumstance and it was a fair and just decision to award Gavin a Premiership Medallion”.

The presentation of Premiership Medallions is a policy determined by the SA Football Commission and is not regulated in the SANFL rules.

Are you sure McIntosh got one?
The way I recall it he was wearing one of the spares on the day when Rob Popplestone made the stupid mistake of calling him up to receive one. But at the Brewery he wasn't given one or at the official SANFL dinner where the "real" medals are handed out, I think these current medals go back and get inscribed?

Dont forget Johnston got one for the swampies in 1990?

At least we have some sort of explaination. Can't disagree with their reasoning either.

According to Andrew Gaze, In the NBA, championship rings are given to every player on the list, the coaching staff, and the administrative staff. Even the receptionist in the office gets one apparently. I like this idea because to win a premiership, a club has to be well administered, they are just as important as the coaches and the players. Team effort.
