THE 2006 SANFL GRAND FINAL

Postby MUNGO JERRY » Tue Dec 13, 2005 9:03 pm

As a diehard sanfl supporter I thought it necessary to bring this subject back up again.
I'm not sure how other supporters of different clubs feel but I'm absolutely livid about the G.F. being played on a Sunday next year with NO public holiday on the following Monday.
I'm not getting ahead of myself either in thinking my team will be there.
For the 2 clubs involved in next years Grand Final it will be a marketing nightmare.
Neither of the 2 teams' supporters will be able to celebrate or comiserate into the early hours of the morning due to work committments etc etc. which will mean a financial loss of somesorts to the appropriate clubs involved.
This game has to be brought forward to the Saturday.
I understand that it only gives the winning team from the Preliminary final 6 days to recover but if it was my team I wouldnt care.
I urge all supporters from the 9 teams (even if you think your team doesnt stand a chance) to make our feelings be known to our clubs and the SANFL.
The only way this will get changed is through people power.
I dont know many of you on this site but I know most of you belong to your own club websites and I urge you in the best interests of your club, it's fans and the traditions that go with making a grand final, to voice your opinions.
A petition could be the answer.
Your feedback on this would be appreciated as well as interesting.
Thankyou.
Too fast to live, too young to die.

That's a good idea.

Example: Another quiz question from me - What year was the last time the SANFL Grand Final played on Saturday?

My understanding is that the winning GF side makes about $40,000 in bar, merchandise etc whilst the losing GF side blows about $20,000.

Was the Monday after the 2000 SANFL GF a public holiday or did I lose a day there somehow?
For every one I miss I am closer to a hole in one.

i cant understand why the gf cant be on a saturday every year, more people could get the chimney ceremonny as it would be on a public holiday, the 2006 gf must be moved to saturday. or a club membership of the winning or losing grand final side, can act as a doctors certificate for monday.

Have the prelim on Saturday night striaght after the AFL GF about 7 - 7.30pm. That way, a team could go from Sunday Afternoon, to Sat. Night to Sat. Afternoon.

If Port make the GF as I've hastefully predicted...make the GF 2 hours after they've won the preliminary...

Wouldnt matter TB, Port never win from Prelims anyway....

The friday nite Prelim is a cracker of an idea, start drinking at 7pm on a friday nite, that way wouldnt have to feel like such an alcoholic when i start drinking at 9am on AFL GF day, i'd still be pissed!

Totally agree the Grand Final should be played on Sat if there is no public holiday on the Mon.
They should allow the supporters to get on the piss.
I enjoy watching the SANFL G.F every year and although my team is unlikely to be there, Sat would be pefect.

I suspect that the SANFL doesn't care because they only care about the attendance at the game - which wouldn't suffer by having it on a Sunday.

Well its time to let the sanfl know that we as supporters dont like it and I personally think there would be more interest within the general public if it were played saturday.
I'd love to know who looks at the demographics and supporters' habits for not only Grand Finals but for ALL finals in the sanfl.
The league has got it wrong and it needs to be changed........in fact, move the bloody g.f. away from footy park and have it at adelaide. I reckon more would turn out to see a grand final there rather than that sterile stagnant poo hole at west lakes............as i said, this is my own personal view and if you agree with me, let your club or the sanfl know of your own displeasure for such stupid programming.
The only thing that will change this is PEOPLE POWER....POWER TO THE PEOPLE (and I aint talkin about port power either)
