Finals playing times and venues?

Postby TEX07 » Mon Sep 07, 2009 12:28 pm

I have a question that someone may be able to answer for me, our C grade have been drafted to play a Grand Final at 10:15am this saturday before PAC's A grade and B grade. This is a draft at this stage but can the amateur league make us play at this time of day? Understand it would be great for PAC to have all three grades playing at the same venue but we have players who work mornings, have family commitments etc. I can appreciate we may need to play the 12:20 game but 10:15am is ridiculous especially concidering we played at 2:20pm all year?

without actually knowing the answer, i would say they def can make you play at 10 15. its only a draft and i would think that saafl would welcome feedback on the venue and time etc and take that into consideration. i think the other option for C grade would be to play on a sunday

You would thnk that they would take any issue into consideration, we have voiced our opinion about the early game and will have to provide employers and names and numbers of the players who work on saturday mornings, the ones who find it hard to get to a game 4 and a half hours earlier than normal! we have players that do have to work and some of dont but it is not unreasonable for us to want to play the game at the very least at 12:15! Can any correct me but does it say anywhere that the games can be played at what ever time the amateur league sees fit? i had a look and all i can see is that the finals state the c1-c5 are played at 2:15??

It just seems a bit rough that there is no mention anywhere on there that the games could start as early as 10:15 is my point, we would happily play at the earlier game of 12:15 if we had to but to be made to play at a time none of us would have played since under 10s is unfair, we may end up having players and our coach not be able to get there due to work commitments! At present we have our head trainer, coach and Vice captain all working in the morning, that is even before we get to training tuesday and tell the rest of the team the game time.

i see they have left themselves an out bandar but where do they draw the line? will we have teams having to play at even earlier or later aty night where it suits, it should be up to both teams if the game is to be played outside the normal 12:15 or 2:20. you would be safe to assume under normal circumstances that out is actually that teams may be asked to play the 12:15 game rather than the 2:20. We had all 3 grades in the GF last year and were not even given the option of doing this, why now?? PAC an imortant college side that deserves it???

Crossed that line Tex - As I have said before - they are proposing the same in D2 and they aren't college sides - Flinders Park v Eastern Park and neither side has a team playing later............

And I can assure you, the League do not do us any favours - BTW I enjoyed a Coopers at Campbelltown on Saturday

My information is that you have protested to the League so lets see what happens, although, as a spectator, I'd like 3 games at the same spot, although I cant bend over to pick up an empty tinny by the end of the day :( :(

Tex I agree it's an odd thing to do and would have thought that the decision should be acceptable to both sides highly doubt ir's anything to do with the reds. More likely the league haven't got enough officials to cover all the grounds.

I did that didnt i?? To be honest with you Jimmy my main concern was that we may have some players that could possibly miss out due to work and i was probally looking to blame PAC, i will blame SAAFL instead, how is that for you considering they make the call. No more line crossing, i actually like playing you guys, good, hard C grade side.

As a spectator that would be better for you but not ideal playing at that time, for both teams i would have thought. Maybe we should play at Blair Athol and have our game after the A grade under lights! Its not the 3 games that has bothered us, it would be good having a crowd there, just the early start that is the issue.

It is not like this was not going to happen this week? surely when planning things like GFs they would have worked out how many games they have and arranged the correct amount of officials?

what would they have done had they had more teams in the C5 and C6 comps??? they would have had 2 more GFs this weekend wouldnt they? I retract my comments re the reds i understand its not them doing this and i would assume the Flinders park and eastern park people would feel the same way, worse for eastern park they need to get all the way to thebarton from elizabeth way for a 10:15 start!

We would ask for it - just the same as you would if your A's, B's & C's were playing in a GF.

As I have said though, it was said last night that it was due to a lack of resources

I am not sure but we may have asked for this last year, i could be wrong however becasue we would have had teh same time issue. Lets face it we MAY and i say MAY not have had a problem with it if our B grade had won last week. If they cant change it they cant change it, i just hope our players are able to get out of other commitments, i would hate to have it disadvantage us.

Could possibly combine it with a Volvo car club meeting at the same time.... Volvo parts swap meet or something maybe ??

Looks as though Cambeltown will need to stock the fridges with Coopers for you Jimmy, you will have 3 GFs to watch there on saturday! Early start for you! Must say it was grand of the SAAFL to allow us to phone them last night to put our case forward for why we needed a later start, apparantly not having a coach, trainer and 4 players possibly not be able to get there at that time was not enough for them to grant us our wish. We got to state our case and was told too bad! Enough said, ill move on now. Looking forward to the game regardless of the time.

Just heard that Raggies were asked if they would like to host the C4 GF at 2.15 (12.15 would be better so that PAOC could get down to Campbelltown). Raggies after checking that they could get the resources organised, said they could do it, but SAAFL had decided to go with plan A at 10.15.

They could have put both the C2 (2.20pm) and C4 (12.10pm) games there to make it worthwhile for Athelstone, but I suppose the SAAFL would miss out on their $6, maybe that is the problem, maybe it isn't.
