2009 Super League GF - Adelaide City v Metrostars

Postby Wedgie » Mon Sep 07, 2009 8:52 am

Well they've done it again, after winning the last 4 championships despite coming 5th at the end of the minor round and looking extremely shaky Adelaide City have fought their way through to their 5 Grand Final in a row since returning to the State Comp.
They'll be aiming to break their own record from the 60s.
Adelaide City will be gunning for their 20th championship including 3 at national level and are truly and unquestionably the premier soccer club in this state.
Go Juve! :D

Didnt think anyone else went for Adelaide city cause usally i get that club is for Italians only, but I am pleasntly surprised Adelaide City has always been the preimer club in this state and if any club for South Australia is going to get a 2nd A-League licences it is going to be Adelaide City there also the club that has enough money comming in to qualify (they owen the Oakden pub and there pokie licence). However there in the unfortuante position of being to good for the Sa Super League but not enough Supporters to get an A-league contract (as in Adelaide cant really support 2 teams) oh well I guess we will have just to put up with dominating the Super League :D
The problem with Barcelona is that I like fish and chips but they had to turn it into calamari and patatas

I'm not quite sure they've dominated this season, finishing 5th at the end of the minor round is nothing to write home about, given that most comps around the world don't have finals series as such. But good luck to them in the GF whenever and wherever it is???

I disagree, making 5 GFs in a row, winning 4 of them is pretty damn good to me. Mind you Adelaide City could only dream of the sort of championships Adelaide United have. ;)

Ive been a City supporter longer than I've bene a North supporters, used to go out to Kensington every week and always enjoyed the hospitatlity of the their great club rooms afterwards. Saw 2 of their NSL championships live in the early 90s in Melbourne against the Knights. Adelaide City forever! Its the reason I go for the Central Coast Mariners too, as I hate the bandwagoners that started following AU and the Adelaide City connection that was there at one stage with T.Vidmar, A.Tobin and D.Mori. :)
I would have gone to the GF this week if it wasn't for the stupid programming of the SANFL, Saturday is footy day, Sunday is soccer day, someone should tell the SANFL!

Adelaide City will always be the club that this state can be proud of that lifted in big matches and not the opposite! :D

Sorry Wedgie, I was referring to Il Duce's comment about them being too good for the SA Super League, probably should have quoted him to avoid confusion. Finishing 5th at the end of the minor round doesn't sound like they're too good for the Super League to me, despite making the GF. You're only as good as your current season!

Fair enough mate, and you're right, we certainly wouldn't say North Adelaide have dominated the SANFL this year!
They have dominated for the last 4 but its good to see them doing it the hard way in the finals like they used to do on the national stage.
