Thanks ZipZap. Watching that Jaensch goal brought back all the emotions of yesterday.

Geez, I feel so bad for that little Bay supporter (seriously). No kid should ever have to experience that. It shows me that with passion like that from such young supporters, the SANFL won't be fading away in a hurry. Hang in there fella (and I don't doubt you will)... Success is always sweeter after tasting the bitterness of failure - just ask a Sturt or Central supporter!

First time i've seen the last 5 minutes was listening on the radio whilst travelling. The kick from Kane, stating the obvious was critical. What I think would be annoying about that, was he never looked up the ground.
Central do this too often, in defence though. The switch from one side to another, poor execution and costly turn over.

The Ben Kane kick to Kirk the killer; it was the fifth attempted short pass from the kick-in uncontested (but this time, to the centre of the ground)!! Great pass a couple of minutes into time on (ending the turnover play) from Coad, big boot to Jaensch. And great work from Jaensch to make the space and lead from probably near the 50 arc towards the top of the goal square.

I reckon the ABC commentary in that last quarter (in fact, all finals series) has been excellent (on watching recorded replays)...

ST...

Should Kirk not have marked it though, I don't know whether it was more the kick or the attempted mark most at fault?

Not being at the game makes it hard to read - but I suspect Kirk wasn't originally expecting the ball to come his way, and got caught flat footed. I know someone at the game who expected the kick to have gone down the old scoreboard flank, but Kane cut straight back in towards Kirk - hmmm, who knows. But it was a massive moment!

From the coverage I would have to agree with you. Giles' drop in the centre during the SSF 1st quarter (with same eventual result, a goal) which caused the turnover so critical.

Kirk nearly marked laying on his backside. There was nothing wrong with the kick IMO. Kirk falling over was the problem. The bays lost the game in the first half not at that time.

I was only watching on the box too mate, so unsure as to whether it was a switch which would have opened things up nicely for the Bays if it had come off ... I guess only those close to Mickan would know whether it was under or against instruction

The kick was awful. I dunno if Kirk was expecting it, but it was still going 5 metres over his head and caused him to have to double back, run backwards for 5 metres and ultimately trip himself up. Terrible kick.

The other thing I noticed was Mills with Jaenschs mark. Keep your eye on the ball son. Might have got there and at least spoiled. Dunno what he was trying to do.

Congratulations to Sturt. Their desire (especially after the first scoreless quarter) to win the match was undeniable.

My take on what was a great contest - best team won, best side lost. And by best side, best side of any of the nine going around this season. From my perspective Sturt had a hunger that the bays didn't. Stuck to their guns, and really fought it right out.

I'm not sure if Football Gods exist, but the Bays were bitten by them in both the SSF and PF. In the final quarter of each game (when leading) they hit the post from awkward angles that, in all reality, would have won the games in question. Backwell (as much as I hate the way he stages for frees) is a talent, and he was stiff* not to get that goal as the game approached time on. If it weren't for modern day fat padding it might well have squeaked in, and the Bays out to a 6 point lead (then contested ball in the centre).

Five terrific tight SANFL finals games thus far. FWIW the Bays are not chokers, they were outplayed with a skill that some don't regard highly enough - pressure.

I get DVD's of the games sturt win....so yeah..try another anaology :)

Poor Bastard. Which coach is going to pick him in a finals side.

Won one by 16 goals though.

Has been mentioned that Johncock may have to make way if Chambers is passed fit but despite some skill errors yesterday actually thought he did a lot of good work off the ball and also feel he's got enough credit in the bank to take his spot in the starting 18 come Sunday.
