have heard brett vanderlans and mathew paul have signed and there could be two more.
the other two are having a think on it.
either way the two who have signed (so i have been told) are quality footballers.

Have heard GH is really trying to keep his players at TV. Upping some of there match payments quite substansially. Have even heard he may step down as coach. Although there is a core group of city dwellers keen to play elsewhere. Problem is they want to play together, and they aren't cheap!! So the question is which team and league has the points and money to accommodate these players?? Will be interesting to see.

Just can't see it happening as it will have to go to a vote by the member clubs - as do other significant issues - and no ones going to vote it in except maybe a few division 1 clubs.

It's a shame that the Mid Murray League is going to end but the only way I can see their clubs continuing is to amalgamate (whether that's the one club going off on it's own as it has proposed and the other three joining up I don't know) and join one of the leagues that is closer to them.

To top it off isn't the lack of juniors up that way a major issue? Something of which I'm certainly familiar.

Yep, BSR and Sedan/Cambrai have applied in writing to join HFL Country Div. with the backing of the SANFL!!
There'll be a meeting with all the club at the HFL in the next few weeks to discuss.

Will be one heluva drive for Kangrilla - approx. 150km to Swan Reach. Kers-Milang used to be a fair trip.....and that was only about 90km!!

Seems an unusual call by the SANFL IMO. I would think BSR would be closer to the Riverland Indy league and probably better suited. And both clubs are closer again to the BL&G - could they merge to form a Mid Murray team to play in the BL&G?

Now that is a very sensible suggestion, would get rid of the bye too!
You should be on Glen Rosser's salary, it's probably $140K+ and you've come up with something he's being paid to do.
Only problem, the word "merge" isn't liked by a lot of people!

Surely the word "merge" would sound better to them than "fold"?

My sentiments too, but some clubs with an "older" base of people still think they're back in the "old days" and are loath to face reality.
Depends on how well the story is put across to the clubs supporters and what benefits it will produce versus the other option.

Aceman, I am not sure the above is applicable to either club. Both would love to exist in their own right but would consider a merger rather than fold. Both are more than aware of reality. A merged club would probably still aim to compete in Hills Country anyway. Barossa could be another option for a merged club but would take a lot more cash. Benefit would be netball still follow footy. And both clubs have alot of players from the Barossa. Morgan wouldn't be able to be part of a merger option, the logistics are too unrealistic. Their best option would be Indys.

Truth is none of the options are perfect, go to Indys you lose B grade and junior netball, a third of your club. Hills might yet cause the decline of netball which may cause a problem. All the clubs would love to see a viable MMFA, it's been a great little comp. But need a strong Morgan plus another club at least. It's hard to retain/attract players with the way it is now.

Try to be positive about the inclusion of BSR and SC. The travel would only be twice a year at the most, and the sun is always shining there!!!!

Apparently not a sure thing anyway. Have a look at http://www.rivernews.com.au sport section for the latest.

Lastly, our girls are worried about netball not following the footy. Do you find your netballers are still part of the club or do they go their own way?

The RMFL BADLY NEEDS an 8th team, netty follows footy, seems the obvious fit to me. Strength would be the only issue, but I guess that would be the same where ever they go! (The last is not meant to be nasty, but I think that team would struggle in all comps, RMFL HILLS & B&L, especially juniors)

Mate, you have to keep the netty girls at all costs, 'cause they're the ones who normally keep your footy blokes interested, if you know what I mean! ;)

from river news..

The future of the Mid Murray Football Association (MMFA) will be known in one month’s time.
MMFA secretary Deb Tanner said all four teams would state their intentions for 2010 at a meeting on Monday, October 26.

Hills country would be a bit below the RMFL.

The MM clubs presumably have a culture of the Netty players going back to the club so it might not be too bad. In the Hills towns where the girls have played at Woodside for decades the Netty followers stay at Woodside all day and the footy followers stay at the footy, my experience is that unless a family has footballers and netballers you dont see the netball families back at the club.

A solution to travel could be a condition of entry in to the competition that has the MM sides play two of their home games at Mt Pleasant ( Kangy, Meadows, Echunga, Maccy would only travel the really long distances once a year). Its not that far for the teams on the decent side of the Freeway. :D

Altenatively Pleasnt Valley could "unmerge" with Mt Torrens and Merge wiith S/C
