S.A. Sheffield Shield Final venue ???

For those who cant remember George playing he was the Shane Watson of the allrounders back in the late 1800s

So...which state will Watson have a grandstand named after him in?

Any ground hosting a shield match, let alone the final will have to meet a very strict criteria which would include a working scoreboard, fencing right around the ground and proper fencing around the ground. That's just the criteria I can remember hearing when Loxton tried to get a shield match played here as part of its centenary.

Gone are the days of matches being played anywhere.

I would think that country towns like Berri which hosted World Cup games in the 90s would have no chance of doing the same ever again.

No idea of the criteria but i actually attended the World Cup match between the West Indies and ?? in 1992. It was part of a SAPSSA trip and we got to play during the lunch break. Was 40C though and there was no shade. Was tough sitting out in that then having to play only to have to sit there for another 50 overs. Not too often 12 years ols would be turning down soft drinks and asking for water but that day we were.

The Jellybacks can host the game at the ACC, that is the Atlantis Cricket Ground. Attending the match will be the Loch Ness Monster, an honest politican and the Tooth fairy. Sherlock Holmes will be coming out to toss the coin for the big match and the special guests will be Fremantle's premiership winning side. Unicorns, Dragons, Tintin, Asterix and Leprachauns will also be in attendance and they'll be selling Fudd beer at 2c a glass which will automatically fill itself up like the Magic Pudding. Should be a great day. GEAR.

Sri Lanka were the opponents. Was that match actually telecast?

Granted it is far from perfect but there are not many alternatives. Fencing etc is easily accounted for, the location is central, the wicket and outfield good.
Which of the footy ovals would be best suited? From my experience (been 7 years mind!) the wickets were always pretty ordinary.

Are you sure GLENELG......Glenelg oval is hardly suitable for district cricket. the pitch is junk, the curator puts no time into it and the oval surface is a joke......Glenelg oval hahahaha thats a very funny coment.

Not as funny as it seems. Les Burdett has been putting work into the pitch at Glenelg Oval because there is a possiblility Sheffield Shield cricket will be played at Glenelg Oval as early as next year. Not next season, but new year which means possiblity the second part of this season.

I don't know the reasons why Adelaide Oval would be unavailable. In order to play 1st class cricket at a venue, they need a closed of area (fenced off for people to pay through the gate). As such, they've looked at Woodville, Prospect, and Glenelg ovals. Location wise, Glenelg gets the nod as it is close to the airport.

Well the SACA have to find a new home for the 2nd XI this season as their usual home ground is a mountain at present.


The only other venue to host a 1st Class match in this state does not have adequate facilities to host a match even though it has similar dimensions to the regular home ground.

Glenelg may have the facilities to accommodate the match but the pitch and outfield leave a bit to be desired.

Maybe Woodville could host but the condition of the outfield is far too slow these days.


Any of the remaining Grade home grounds are simply undesirable for 1st class cricket
