What sort of similar "club men" have clubs given the arse in recent years (for various reasons)?
The only one that comes immediately to my mind is Dean Howard.
I've also taken note that a club like Sturt basically allows their champions to retire on their own terms, is it perhaps different circs?
I'd be interested in others opinions on this.

Rod Pope and Greg Nicholson (West Adelaide) 1974.

Perhaps the North fans can help me with this one. Hargraves has been a terrific player for them over the past few seasons, but looking at him in the finals he looked unable to chase and make second efforts. Was he injured? If not, that's possibly why North have decided not to play him next season.

Very surprising. Maybe another club could do with him for a season or two.

That "surplus" theory coupled with the "slowness" is the most likely reason.

If North lose Gill in the draft and Perrie for most of the year with the crows, they will need to find some key forwards

In regards to Rick McGowan, at the time when Kris Grant told him that he was over-rated, Rick was extremely disappointed but to his credit he managed the situation professionally and his team mates at the time rallied around him and history shows he went on to not only play some pretty good footy for the club, won premierships and a Jack Oatey medal

didn't north tell him to move on & he went to central & when he retired he then went back to north & filled in for their twos when they were short ? & eventually got back into their league team !!

Ironic his name came up in this thread. Wasn't he Hargraves' "partner in crime" with a few late nights out in the pub a few seasons back?

They're not perfect and I wont deny it.
You wouldn't find 2 blokes that would bleed more for the club though.

Rick Davies was sacked by Sturt and went to South Adelaide in 1985.

And not sure of the exact circumstances, but I think Michael Nunan was overseas in 1978 and was told by Jack Oatey he wouldn't be required by Sturt upon his return. Ironic he played in the team who defeated Sturt in the GF that season :)

Ahh, good old Micky Nunan, he lived across the road from my Grandmother and 2 Great Aunties as well as a plethora of other old folks at Westbourne Park and always went out of his way to help them. When he and Stephen Kerley went to North I too went to North (as well as a couple of other reasons).
Ironically one of the regular posters on here had his SANFL career cut short when told by Mick that he was a fat lazy c**t.

I think because he was nice to my Grandma and friends and gave us 2 premierships that I forgave him for getting rid of Grenville, just.

Did a financial backer make the call?

Pouring a few beers for alleged extra non salary cap payments I suspect has caught up with the pie eater. Vili was happy with his factory expansion, but it did not translate into shots at goal.

Some would say he celebrated goals with too much vigour and had the skill but not the attitude.....whoops this is a line from ex assistant coaches from the wobbley final mob, that does not know how to win finals!!!!!

EGO is greater than application??????????????????????????????????

John Richter and Andrew Johns spring to mind immediately for me.

Both very good players in a poor era for the club, both would've if given the chance played 300 games for sturt, both sacked by a coach who was hailed as the messiah but was hopeless, despite John indicating he was willing to play 2nd's and earn a league spot.

Rick Davies as previously mentioned, was a shocker by Merv Keane but he had other motives I guess and I Anne touching that one again.

IMHO, he was no where near the player he once was this year, but he surely still demands a place on the list. I wonder if he'll play at another league club or that will be it? For the majority of this century I would have had him in my team as full forward ahead of Daniel Schell and as an opposition supporter, I knew every time he had the ball for a set shot inside 60 it was a goal for North Adelaide.

Would be interesting to find out the reason North and Hargraves have parted ways.

Do you think Spelly that an uninjured Hargraves could play with Passador and Groeke in our forward line ? Would be a very interesting game against north if that was the case .
