A New Merger?

Postby FlyingHigh » Sat Oct 21, 2006 2:01 pm

I realise there were problems about this time last year, that lead to FootySA shutting down for a while, and Wedgie starting the SAFootyCentral site. While both are great, it seems that most news and forum topics are duplicated on each site, and most users browse the two.

Why can't the two join together and take the best bits - the news/home page of FootySA and the forum area of SAFootyCentral?

If there are reasons this is not possible, tell me. I've got work to do and can't spend time on both!!

That would never happen, both sites are really very different, we really just want footysa to be about SANFL football where this site obviously covers a number of different topics. We tend to think if you want to talk about AFL football then go to an AFL site same with music ect, but thats just our preference. Both sites also are run very differently and the forum is not a major part of our site but still very important.

We have now fixed up the problems we had 12 months ago with posting and just feel we have an all round better site than we used to for a number of reasons and certainly the clubs and the SANFL are very happy with things at footysa as I am sure they are here. I think there is a perception that there is competition between the sites and that really isn't the case, we are very happy that we were able to attract people to this site and to a number of the club sites that exist now. After all thats why we started the site to promote the SANFL.

I do agree its hard to check both sites though, I don't get on here to often just because footysa and the club website serves my purpose for SANFL football. There are always going to be people that do and don't like footysa and safooty and just prefer one or the other so now people like you, me and others have a choice which is great I think.

Not really sure what Wedgie's view is but I presume that it would be similar, plus he and us have put in a lot of effort into our own sites and would prefer just to do things our own way I'd suggest. Who knows hopefully in another 12 months someone else will start up another one. I do see your point though.

Thanks CA - I really only come into this one for the footy, not for the other stuff. However, I find I am coming into here more often now as there seems to be more/better footy discussion.

I don't see it as competition or any bad-blood, more a duplication of ideas and discussions.

I think thats going to be the case for some as after all this site is a forum as if there is no discussion then there is no site, where as the forum is not the major part of our site. As I said, just different ideas.

Flying High's pretty well spot on, I only started SAFooty because CA told me the Forum was closed for good at Footysa and it was possible the entire Footysa site would close down. Having seen other sporting communites disintergrate online I wanted to make sure something was done quickly so people wouldn't drift off into the distance.
Ideally Footysa would be the news site and a few more could post news as its happens a bit quicker and this would be the fans forum and it worked wonderfully when like that late last year.
I became increasingly frustrated with Footysa's forum before it closed down because of the amount of other things discussed on there, hence why the splitting up of subjects seemed a good idea. Ive also become frustrated at Footysa as it quite often just seems to be 2 people talking crap and when I last looked there still seemed to be a problem with trolls, I hope its changed.
There's definately no bad blood between the moderators/site admin of this site and footysa.
I always make a point of catching up with CA and Nai when we're at the same footy games and we usually have a good laugh and a good chat.
In fact you usually find that people like Phil, Chris Kendall, CA, Nai, myself and a few others get along very well as we have something in common and that's our love of the SANFL and we all have an appreciation of how powerful the internet can be in promoting the SANFL.

It hasn't. There are still 2 major contributors talking utter shite.

In an ideal world I'd like to see the news aspect of Footy SA combined with this forum, but if it doesn't happen then I'm OK with that too. I quite the fact that both sites have their own subtle little nuances.

Unfortunately there still seems to be a lot of those same old crap arguments, stereotypes and trolls on FootySA, which is why I alluded to better footy discussion on this site. FootySA has been a great site and I would hate to see it go under, there seems to be a shift towards this site more - someone might have the numbers?

I appreciate the great work people do behind the scenes on both sites, and I wasn't setting out to change the world.

I very rarely go to FootySA these days because of the reasons mentioned above. Theres mainly two people over there who ruin every thread with childish rubbish which is neither funny or footy related, it has ruined the site in my opinion.

I know I've sent a email (via their link on FootySA) to Nai and CA saying what a great site they have but unfortunately 2 individuals (mainly) ruin it with they way they hijack a thread and it degenerates into a juvenile discussion...

Haven't heard back from them though....

What is laughable is that one of the idiots' classic response is, "if you don't like it don't read it"...Umm how can we know if we don't like it if we haven't read it?????

Other than that FootySA is a great site and my admiration and respect for the blokes who run it behind the scenes it immense. As I've said previously both sites are a godsend for those of us who live interstate.

I was honoured that CA asked me to do a previous on a round this year on FootySA esepecially as i'm not close to the action over here in country Victoria.

In a nutshell keep both sites seperate, they both have great and unique qualities
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Yes those two individuals have trashed the site. I wrote something derogatory about them as finally had enough of their carp - and MY comment got deleted! Unbelievable when all they seem to do is abuse people that disagree with them. So I can now assume that the behaviour of the individuals is acceptable to the site.

And there's barely a post I can make without one of them abusing me because of said comment. But those comments don't get deleted.

I visit the other site less frequently than I used to and I stated as such on footysa a few months ago, as well as sending an email (with no response). Sadly, I think it will die a slow death based on the responses here - unless they boot the two main offenders.

I only visit Footysa for the tipping comp (finished top 15 :D ) & news. The forum there just looses it at times.

I noticed during the week that a very funny post bagging one of them was deleted. It wasn't even offensive, actually quite clever. But it seems they are getting protection for some odd reason. Shame, cos they spoil an otherwise excellent site.
