One thing is for sure , if we dont recruit at least one genuine full back , all the good work thats being done now by the coach and club will end up in frustration next season . We have a huge void there , with many good sides having way too much joy against us via their full forwards in the last 3 years . Thats got to be priority no. 1 , along with getting Mickyj to drop 4 or 5 stone by next season ! ;)

Played some very good football under Micky Godden in the Bay's reserves, won the Reserve's Magarey medal...

Reckon he will go alright at the Eagles...

Played on ball and across half back for the Bays and when he was at Westies I think he was more a half forward...

Re the situation with the position of fullback, with key forwards being Schulz/Salter (whichever Power leaves us-or both), Stuart Hill as the tall in the forward pocket or even McGregor, it frees up Grocke to play the role at FB or CHB. Has pace, workrate, good o/head and on the ground and has adapted well in defence when used in cameo roles a couple of years ago. Hasn't quite made it as a dominating tall forward, rather as a running work-horse with a penetrating kick - has the attributes to make a top key defender.
Better to spend our money on a classy rover with pace who can run through lines - there are 3 rovers from our Reserves who got 2-3 games this year and while they showed skills, none of them had that break-away pace. Mick Godden no doubt would have noticed how the Bay runners carved us up in the Reserves GF.

Dash

Noticed the name of Aaron Spicer second in the North East League voting. Isn't he a 2008 U19 Eagles player. Must be doing alright. ? worth having another look at him.

Well said Premiers. I have been bleating for years that the Eagles should play Grocke at CHB. Has all the attributes to make a great CHB, plus he would give much needed run from the back lines.

Aaron Spicer left the Eagles too early, at 6'5'' has a lot to offer. I believe the club has had a crack at him the last couple of years but to no avail, have heard that they will have another go for 2010.

Agreed regarding the argument of our leg speed but I think it is important that all of us Eagles supporters acknowledge that part of our lack of speed has been brought about by our focus on 'accountability'.

Any natural flair and run was taken away from the players by the coaching staff.

This from another thread.

ferret wrote:Eagle supporters close to the scene realised that Chris Davies appointment might only be for a short period as he only came back to SA for personal reasons. He is definitely destined for higher honors but supporters will be appreciative of the excellent job he is doing.
Supporters have been excited by the recent appointments of a new CEO, President and Coach and if their current approach continues the good times will continue.

A done deal for the WACA. Disappointing.

Heard that Peanut Allmond's brother Leigh will be down trying his luck in the big smoke in 2010 with the Eagles. Leigh is a few years older (~25) and is a pretty handy country footballer for Two Wells in the Adelaide Plains. Has strong hands, great pace and is a long kicking left footed wingman/half forward type.

Where have you heard this info matt? and what role would he be taking on?

Graeme Wood is the CEO over there and has only been in the role for a couple of years. Would have thought a role at the SACA may have been more on Chris's radar down the track.
Trust the process.
