Think Alcopop is way to short.......
Yes he is a star on the rise, but running the 3200 against a group of proven perfomers...Pretty risky.....
Has D. Tourneur been over 3200 in a horse race before????

WestIndiesWonder

how can you question whether D. Tourner has been over 32oom before?

of course he has, he's been stuck 4 and 5 wide over 1400m at murray bridge, strathalbyn, balaklava, morphettville

It was probably just mind games but I thought Bart Cummings was a bit cocky and over the top in criticizing the international challengers for the Melbourne Cup.

He said "What goes on with those internationals, they just never work them. What do they feed them, Rice Bubbles. I know they do things different in Europe, but they come here and do what they've done there for 100 years"

It's OK for him to berate the methods of trainers that have had to bring their horses 13,000 miles and get them ready for a big race.

I think his next win overseas will be his first.

He should be thankful that quarantine laws are still preventing Japanese horses from competing in the spring carnival.

Since 1993 when Vintage Crop stole the Cup there has been 2 northern hemisphere trained raiders win the Cup.

Irish-trained Media Puzzle in 2002, Japanese-trained Delta Blues in 2006.

6 runners-up, 4 third-placings.

11 placings out of a total 71 starters since 1993.

Big Bart is right, they ain't doing it right. Especially considering the costs involved in bringing a horse over here.

Is that such a bad strike rate? On the assumption that there were 24 horses in each cup and 3 place getters

16 cups since 1993 means 384 starters (24/race) and 48 places up for grabs.

if 71 starters were from overseas, then 313 were local, if 11 or 12 of the 48 place spots were filled by o/s horses then 36 were filled by aussies

therefore the os horses have a strike rate of around 18% (12/71) compared to the aussies of 12% (36/313)

Yes, I know there are plenty of holes in these calcs

Unbeleivable. Wonder how many have done their dough cold.

Twice with Efficient in a row. Punters must hate Lloyd Williams.
