TRAFFIC FINES INFRINGEMENT SCAM demerit points.

Anything!

TRAFFIC FINES INFRINGEMENT SCAM demerit points.

Postby mal » Wed Oct 25, 2006 9:56 am

There is an alledged scam on payment of Infringements concerning demerit points.
A media broadcaster has said that by overpaying a fine by
amounts of $5 + has opened a loophole.
For example if you have a $295 infringement and pay by cheque for $300,
the differential is $5.
A $5cheque is re-sent back to the perpetuator and apparently if you do
not cash in that $5 cheque, then you are not docked the applicable demerit points :?:

Interesting.

Can someone please explain this absurdity

I've heard of this before.

They send you a cheque for the amount over paid, and the matter isn't closed (and therefore points not added) until you honour the cheque.

On a side note Mal, you are given demerit points, not docked :)

Otherwise they'd be merit points.

This story was around years ago, and I believe it was actually legitimate, although I was under the impression that they had rectified it?

Another scam ?

Statuatory declarations are now a forMALity to ascertain the identity of
the driver of the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle is fined and gets Demerit points.
HOWEVER
A person told me today that when he worked for a company the rules differed.
Companies have a choice when the infringement notice is sent.
The example he used was,
There is an option available to the company, pay the fine and declare the driver
OR
Pay the fineand an additional amount and not declare the driver.

If a fine was $200 you could pay about $700 and not list the driver.

Revenue raising racketeering  :?:

If its true imagine the public outcry.

I heard on the radio this morning, some copper stating that the demerit points apply as soon as the fine is paid - even if overpaid.

TIme to go cash those cheques people, they are not helping you!

OK folks.
Fiestly, stop it MAL - I can't get all these questions answered BUT

re the demerit points issue,

I am informed by an absolutely impeccable source (from the place where these types of processes are conducted!!) that it is definitely an urban myth.

I can assure everyone that there is no better source to confirm or deny this rumour than the one I have got clarification from on this.

if i can find the last fine i'll show you to confirm it, when you get it changed from a company to a person you have to get a jp or similar to sign a form (stat dec) then send it in & then you receive another fine with the same details but in your name instead of the companies

This is additional revenue raising garbage at its very very worst.
If anyone gets caught its 3 points by stat.dec.
If anyone works for a company they can get the company to pay the extra $300 and no points.
I am absolutely bewildered.
Why cant anyone then pay the extra $300 to protect thier demerit points?

not double standards just another way for the government to make extra $$$$$$$$$$$, because if you pay extra & stay on the road they a chance to get more out of you rather than have you walking the streets for 3-6 months or whatever the penalty is
