For anyone that is interested, the under 16 competition is dying in the arse, at the start of the season we had Salisbury West, Craigmore, Penfield, Smithfield and Salisbury Juniors, since then it appears as though Penfield has pulled out turning it into a 4 team comp. If you have any players that can play in this age group let me know and we'll try and get Penfield up and running again.
This comp is fiiled with talent, I know that all clubs have pretty much just enough to fill a side, we are 1 short at the moment and are hopeful of picking up one or two more along the way. Given the dual registration rule, it would be good to get all of the best players around the area playing in this comp.
Keep a look out for some of the names in this comp as I reckon there will be at least 15 players that will be playing Grade 1 or 2 for their clubs in the next couple of years if they aren't already.

My fears for the future seem to be a reality now LM. Im sick of banging my head against a brick wall. The format of cricket must change. Sick of being told the juniors are strong. Yeh maybe in U/9 and 11.They were like that 5 years ago and where have these kids gone that are now in the u/16 age group.

so basically in the space of 3 years the U/16 comp has gone from 2 divisions being I think 12 teams to 4 sides - if that doesnt send alaram bells sounding then perhaps a lot of people are deaf

Just quickly this round for the Lodge 17-19 players can not commit to 2 weeks cricket, for various reasons. Ten unavailable for both, 2 each to play A,B&C and 2 in the Ds for 1 week only. No wonder I have grey hair

Having 20/20 matches for juniors wont work, the top 4 or 5 will all bat and bowl and the rest will just pay their fees to watch. Under 16's should be scrapped all together, they go up by 2's until they hit 16's, maybe it should be 10's, 12's, 14's & 16's. we only put a team in because we didn't want to lose any juniors, we only had 6 to begin with.

so once the kids turn 15 & 16 they should start playing senior cricket in the low grades so they all get a crack??

I agree T20 not the answer but is part of the solution - I believe that the order should be changed around so everyone experiences opening batting at 3 etc - especially in the lower grades as the retention rate seems to be a problem, perhaps it is because kids arent getting a go
Mandate that the batting order must change each time you bat, that is your no10 & 11 must open next time and everyone pushes down the order

Perhaps it is time that coaches stopped playing to win premierships in juniors, maybe the PDCA sgould not have finals etc for U/10 & U/12 and make it about enjoying the game and not feeding some under rated has beens ego in saying they are a premiership coach (not all are like that but some are)
