Petrenko appears to have no sidestep for a good rover, rather he's a straight running Johncock type and Jacky's defensive skills were non-existent last year to be considered as an onballer. So with all these young U20 years rovers, some will be looking to move on if we manage to secure a good quick rover. At this stage we're going to be again relying on our slower (but very capable) midfielders McKenzie, Powell,Treeby, Cicollela, Rimington around the ball. Geez, one classy, quick onballer (dare I say, two) would set us up nicely. But how's the $$$$$ and salary cap going?

They would be well under the cap they were heaps under this year and with kenny, westie ,zack etc going theres even more coin to use

Redden has potential but needs to harden up and quickly. I'd think him and Guilhaus would have to impress in reserves before being considered for league.

For the record I wouldn't want to see Schwarze back at the Eagles.

I would have kept Schwarze and got rid of Passa every one knew he was finnished after 08.Schwarze might be a better player with a good coach that gives him a go ( not every one gets an arm chair ride like Fairy and Hicks ) they should be the first ones to be given the big DCM

Holden
I was referring on the $$$$$ spent on Parry, firstly to South for buying him out of his contract and then, secondly, $$$$ to lure him. I would have thought the amount required would have soaked up the funds saved by the exit of McGregor and Passador. We need enough cash to get a classy quick crumbing rover equal to the likes of Sullivan, Calliet, Allen, Crane, Clayton, Archard etc.

ith the way the AFL Power forward line is shaping with North Adelaide's big forward Daniel Stewart being a real chance to make the team and with Tredrea and Westhoff filling the other key spots, the Eagles may well have both Salter and Schulz available. Best team at this stage, hoping for more recruits is:
FF Hill Salter Banner 1st R Parry, Treeby, Ciccollela

HF Polec Schulz Jackie (2nd R Dabrowsky, Powell,Banner)

C Jarrad McKenzie Allmond res Dabrowsky, Goldsworthy, N Batley

HB Powell Grocke Rimington (Assuming Broadbent , P Stewart AFL)

I remain unconvinced. Only Parry is a proven player and we carries a lot of baggage with him to the club. Hope the coach is strong enough to discipline him if he starts playing up again
.

Parry is indeed a proven player and I believe Godden/Eagles board are well aware of "the baggage" along with James Boyd from the illfated South African trip this year. South made all clubs aware when they solicited enquiries from the clubs.

I am more surprised that he has signed on for three years as he has constantly said that 2010 would be his last (certainly with South) due to his work and ongoing shoulder soreness. He only played until May this year (state game in Perth) and the surgery may have produced a longer term fix. He has always remained mates with Jarred Wright and this may have played a part in him going to the eagles. I would also think that you remain a chance to get Boyd. Both good players.

Banner something happened with him part way of the year injury lack of confidence .But fit I can see his long kicking getting him a league berth more often than not.But tends to be an "outrider"
Fairclough fell a long way down last year even ron lost faith .something about his body to much upper body strength .But he was throwing himself into packs needs a bit more pace at league level.
Goldsworthy and Lane why ron tried to turn Forwards in to midfielders I have no idea .And lane kicked 3 or 4 goals in one game only to be dropped the next week.
Petrenko fell short torwards the end of 09 but I see him as a HBF or wingman with his pace.
Jacky now how we or the crows still have him on a list is beyond me.And I was a wrap fro the lad in the beginning only seemed to try when he could do the flashy high flying mark.God and craig need to talk with him get him to do the 1 pointers .
Cheep if he's still with us should be on a wing played his best footy at league level on the wing .
Rimmington was the big improver in 09 and should continue to get better.
Now could the club be a chance to get the Boyd Brothers ? My mail from inside South is the better brother is still with out a club.

Friday's announcement was music to my ears...... Finally our Club is approaching the off season with some gusto instead of a wait and see type of attitude. Three signings in areas that we didn't have enough depth - now I'd like to see someone to kick our goals and a midfielder and I would be comfortable.

Obviously a change of the guard has meant a change of philosophy in recruiting. And, not a minute too soon.

I think in the past the Eagles have put all their eggs in one or two baskets. Lets just say like Skipworth and Jacobs last year when the deals didnt happen it was to late to recruit .of course its not the players fault that they get re drafted .And I'm not blaming anyone for missing recruits !
I wonder if we are in the race for Boyd my mail late last week was he was without a home .He is a very good rover .

Surely there has to be more recruiting done. We should have some $$$$$ still to spend. A quality forward and a classy midfielder with pace to burn must be our priority.

Schwarze was a disgrace with his refusal to chase after one effort at the ball - had a demoralising effect on the remainder of the team (acknowledged by Ron Fuller) so we don't want to revisit that situation again. Anyway, Schwarze wasn't happy when the Eagles offered him a reduced contract fee, sending him to North and he would command much less now so no-one is likely to accommodate him.
