The Woodville West Torrens Football Club would like to announce the signing of Scott Welsh and the retirement of Peter Fiacchi for 2010.

Scott Welsh – 2 years

Originally from West Adelaide, Scott was drafted to North Melbourne, making his debut with the Kangaroos in 1996. In 2000 he was traded to the Adelaide Crows where he spent 8 seasons, kicking 270 goals in 129 games, before moving to the Western Bulldogs in 2008.

At the end of the 2009 season Scott announced his intention to retire from AFL football and return to South Australia.

Upon the announcement Senior Coach Michael Godden said “We are obviously delighted that Scott has chosen the Eagles as his preferred destination upon his return to the SANFL competition”

“We are looking forward to Scott’s contribution to the football club both from an on field and off field perspective where we hope he can pass on his considerable AFL experience to our younger players”.

Scott Welsh said “When I decided to retire from AFL football, I knew I wanted to return home and play in the SANFL competition and I am thrilled to be joining the Eagles”.

“There is a buzz around the Club at the moment that has me genuinely enthused about the challenge that lies ahead”.

Peter Fiacchi - retirement

Peter has decided to retire after 133 games with the Club, debuting against Port Adelaide in Round 8 of 2001.

Announcing his intentions to the playing group at the first night of pre-season training last night, Peter said “I have thought long and hard over the last few weeks and have come to the decision that with my work, study and other personal commitments I can no longer squeeze it all in and train to the level that is required to play good SANFL football”.

“It has been an unbelievable journey over the last decade with lots of ups and downs but I have loved every minute of it and I will miss the club, the supporters and especially all the boys deeply”

“It is unfortunate to have to come to this decision this year as I would have loved to have played on with our new coach, Michael Godden, as I feel he is going to be fantastic for the Club and will see plenty of success in years to come”.

I am sure that you’ll all join me in thanking Peter for his contribution to the Eagles and wish him all the best in the future

Great news about Welsh but a shame about Peter - great player when fully fit.

Most proactive recruiting campaign at Oval Ave in many years.

Don't think Aaron Day would command a large transfer fee at all.

Lee Allmond is a gun. He could be the 2010 version of Ryan Darling from Sturt if he fully commits to the Eagles.

He has dominated for Two Wells in the APL has he not mythical ? I've heard some people say he is better than his brother !!!

As for Darling, I see he is going to give the SANFL another crack, he was listed as an IN for the Double Blues the other day...

I think he has won something like 5 B&F's in a row for Two Wells and he would only just be 25. I would rate Lee as the best of all the brothers. Lee would be the fittest player in the APFL, it would be scary to think of how fit he would be after a League pre-season. Lets just hope he doesn't come back to Two Wells in a hurry. ;)

I must say I think your a fair way off , if we read between the lines with regards Parry , Id say South with Fuller in charge were happy for him to go as he has had injury and attitude issues ( well it is South and it must do your head in losing all the time with a different coach every other week ) therefore a 10k fee maybe 15k . Welsh would be interesting because isnt he a sort of free agent ; West just didnt want to pay his contract demands , they had first dibs at him ! Day isnt first choice so that transfer is surely no more than 10k for a Ressie player .
nickname wrote:Apart from the wages, that's some pretty hefty transfer fees the Eagles will be up for. Between Parry, Welsh and Day there wouldn't be much change out of $50,000 I wouldn't have thought.

I understand Welsh would cost about 25K in transfer fees. Parry, as an experienced ruckman, a contracted player and State rep would, I think, fetch more than 15K so there isn't, as I said, much change out of 50K, without considering Day and even Greiger. It's a fair bit to spend before you even pay these guys. Obviously it's not a problem if you've got it though.

YEH , but dont forget the other two amigos Stevens and Kanta ................ Ive been saying along with a few others on here like Mickyj , Arcadefire , Jackel etc. for years now that things the club were doing , or more precisely , were not doing ala proper recruiting / planning , were holding us back from having a fair crack at success . Well it seems like some of us were right to question , quite controversially and harshly at times , the coach and Board . The signing of Welsh proves that if you make a genuine effort in all areas , together , good things can happen sometimes ; that hasnt been the case for several years now at the Eagles . How quickly smart determined people can turn things around . Well done to those people ! !

Dont forget Kenny Mac is gone from the Salary cap no idea what he was on .
And the Eagles to paraphrase Holden here haven't spending all their salary cap for at least 3 years .
Just reading between the email lines here could Welsh be a playing assistant to "god".

The Eagles have had Skippys $ on hold for a couple of years now , plus Kenny Mc. retiring with Westbrook , Fiacchi , Passador and Heir ; so its quite straight forward . In 08 we were 70k under the cap FFS !

Certainly is..... think we need to give some credit to the people in the 'office' for either listening to you or for hiring the new people in the Club.... I am enjoying Godden, Ireland and Davies work at the moment. :D

Have Eagles fans forgotten or not known about the money the club got when Sam Jacobs was elevated off the Rookie list .
That would surely ahve taken care of 1 transfer fee ;)
