Certainly is..... think we need to give some credit to the people in the 'office' for either listening to you or for hiring the new people in the Club.... I am enjoying Godden, Ireland and Davies work at the moment. :D

Well done to the recruiting boys at the club. They have really attacked this pre-season with some venom which has been certainly lacking in previous years. The signing of Scott Welsh is a huge bonus for our playing list.

As I said above I would think Sam Jacobs upgrade payment may have paid for Welsh or Parry ;)

My thoughts re a mid fielder CCL.
There were a few new or young guys that did well in the 3 x 1k's trials.Along with Treeby .
Treeby and Powell looked to be both fully fit or in other words no tape on their bodies ;)

There's a bit of mixed emotion from me with that e-mail. I always have rated Fiacchi so highly for his toughness. But signing Scott Welsh? That's not like the Eagles over the past few years? Big signing, hopefully we can get no injuries out of him.

ccl is spot on - we need both Powell and Treeby out there fit and firing, along with another midfielder to sign.

So who's left from the 2006 GF side?

Justin Cicolella
Sam Fairclough
Adam Grocke
Leigh Treeby
Luke Powell
Paul Stewart - when not playing for the Power
Dale Symmons
Mark McKenzie
Luke Jarrad
Brad Dabrowski - who sounds like he is on thin ice for next year

Pity to hear Peter Fiacchi has retired. He has made the most of himself to become a very good league player. He wasn't one of the guns at school, but has made it further than almost all of his peers because of that desire and dedication. Well done, it was a pleasure watching him play for the Eagles and you always knew he would at the very least break even in a contest. I wonder of he'll join Ken at Henley or go back to Port District?

Hopefully Dabrowski doesn't follow. With McGregor already retiring, the new recruits are only breaking even on what we had.

Welsh and Parry sound like good signings. Both should add significantly to the Eagles if they stay fit. I assume Day will be a like for like replacement for Zac Hier - without the league experience.

I'll be interested to see if Chris Chubb makes it. He had to retire prematurely due to knee problems, but I think he's been playing successfully in the Geelong leagues. In a way, a similar player to Ben Grieger - no frills, but 100% at it all the time.

Two of my all-time favourite Westies.

Good luck, Chris and Ben.

Well, by the look of things, we have already a good defensive component to our game (not so much the total calibre of the people down back now); and with all those players you named, I think we should be kicking more goals than this season gone! :)

Perhaps Grieger to take over from Heir.

Was Cica out at training, micky? I really want him to continue as we saw towards the end of the season that he still has it.

Fiarclough was riding the bike he had broken a big toe.

But we STILL have not addressed the key area that has held us back over the last two seasons - some quality midfielders and in particular a fast rover. Until this is addressed I'll consider the recruiting a failure.

Is the Chris Chubb who is training with us the former Westies player?

Correct. As a supporter I don't feel complete about the recruitments until that is addressed.

A little bit more on the signing of Welsh...

Woodville-West Torrens signs Scott Welsh

DELISTED Western Bulldogs key forward Scott Welsh is the latest addition to a Woodville West-Torrens squad which is suddenly brimming with new recruits.

New coach Michael Godden announced Welsh’s signing on Tuesday, just days after the Eagles signed South Adelaide ruckman Craig Parry, Grand Final-winning Glenelg Reserves captain Aaron Day and former Tigers ruckman Sebastian Guilhaus.

Welsh - who played at West Adelaide before chalking up 205 AFL games with North Melbourne, Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs - said he was ``thrilled’’ to be joining the Eagles.

``There is a buzz around the club at the moment that has me genuinely enthused about the challenge that lies ahead,’’ Welsh said. Welsh’s signing, along with Parry, Day and Guilhaus, significantly boost the club’s big man stocks, which were weakened with the retirement of Ken McGregor, Mark Passador and Zack Hier.

``We are looking forward to Scott’s contribution to the football club both from an on field and off field perspective where we hope he can pass on his considerable AFL experience to our younger players,’’ Godden said.

Godden said he recruited Parry because current ruckman Brad Dabrowski was unsure if he would play on next year.

``He’s (Dabrowski) got work commitment issues and is still not 100 per cent so I had to do the right thing by the club and move on a ruckman,’’ Godden said.

Parry was forced to choose between a pre-booked trip to Las Vegas or staying at the Panthers last week.

The state ruckman revealed the ultimatum was put to him by new coach Ron Fuller, who refused to allow him to travel to the US for one of his best friend’s wedding in March next year because it would mean missing a game.

In other news at the Eagles, 133-game veteran Peter Fiacchi has retired. Fiacchi told the playing group at the first pre-season session on Monday he would be drawing the curtains on his SANFL career which began in 2001.
